Showtime's Super Skeptics Slash Into a Sixth Season
PENN & TELLER: BULLSHIT! Returns on Thursday, June 19 at 10 PM ET/PT
LOS ANGELES, May 22 -- SHOWTIME's resident skeptics are
back to blow the lid off of popular beliefs in a new season of the
award-winning series PENN & TELLER: BULLSHIT! Penn, a recent contestant on
Dancing With the Stars and his partner in crime, Teller, skewer topics
ranging from the "green" movement to Eastern medicine to world peace.
Season six, which includes ten, half-hour episodes, premieres on Thursday,
June 19 at 10 PM ET/PT.
The Las Vegas headliners and world-famous magicians use undercover
operatives and copious research to expose the bogus science behind widely
accepted notions. The new season's first episode entitled, "The War on
Porn," targets feminists, right-wingers and other groups hell bent on
regulating pornography. This season, Penn & Teller will cover a range of
hot-button issues, including the mass hysteria behind so-called "green"
living; the hype over Eastern medicine; world peace; and the true
initiators behind the spike in sensitivity training courses being mandated
nationwide.
PENN & TELLER: BULLSHIT! has been nominated for a Writers Guild Award
for Best Comedy/Variety series for four consecutive years and won in 2004.
It was also nominated three times for Emmys(R) for Outstanding Reality
Program and Outstanding Writing for Non-Fiction Programming. The series is
produced by the Academy and Emmy(R) Award-winning Wolper Organization and
Star Price Productions and executive produced by Price, Mark Wolper and
Peter Adam Golden ("The Aristocrats"). Wolper Organization's television
credits include The Mists of Avalon, the mini-series The Thorn Birds, and
Queen; and the special Legends, Icons and Superstars of the 20th Century.
Film credits include L.A. Confidential, Murder in the First and Surviving
Picasso.
Penn & Teller's unique mix of comedy, magic and the macabre has brought
them critical acclaim, sold-out runs on Broadway and their own permanent
performance home at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Together
since 1975, their award-winning theater show has been a long-running hit
on- and off-Broadway. Their 1985 PBS special, Penn & Teller Go Public, won
two Emmys(R) and the International Golden Rose. Other television projects
include the Emmy(R)-nominated variety series Penn & Teller's Sin City
Spectacular, and the special Penn & Teller's Home Invasion. The
award-winning pair has also authored two best-selling books. In 2007, Penn
served as host of the NBC game show Identity and hosted his own nationally
radio show on CBS stations across the country. Most recently, Teller
co-conceived and directed a new version of "Macbeth," which won rave
reviews in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
