|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BIG D (CBS, New!) - Jeff Filgo and Jackie Filgo ("The New Adventures of Old Christine") have scored a put pilot commitment from the Eye for a new domestic comedy at the network. Warner Bros. Television, where the pair are based, is producing. No other specifics about the half-hour were released.
BOLDLY GOING NOWHERE (FOX) - Wayne McClammy, best known as the director of viral hits "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" and "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck," has been tapped to helm the comedy pilot, about the day-to-day foibles on an intergalactic spaceship helmed by a rogue captain. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's" Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton are behind the half-hour, which is based on an idea by Adam Stein. McElhenney, Howerton, Day, Michael Rotenberg and Nick Frenkel and showrunner Jonathan M. Goldstein are the executive producers for RCG, 20th Century Fox Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.
THE BOOTHS (Showtime, New!) - Actor/director Kevin Bacon is developing a new drama at the pay channel about the early life of John Wilkes Booth, the man who would eventually assassinate Abraham Lincoln. Dubbed "The Booths," the project would focus on Booth's dysfunctional relationship with his actor-brothers Edwin and Junius Brutus Jr. in the years leading up to the famed murder. No other specifics were given.
ENTOURAGE (HBO) - The pay channel has ordered a sixth season of the series, just five episodes into its fifth season. Production on the new season will begin in early 2009 for a summer premiere. Doug Ellin, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson are the executive producers.
ICE (NBC) - The Peacock is developing a new drama about the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement division of Homeland Security. Said agency is tasked with being on the lookout for the trafficking of everything that crosses the U.S. borders, "from arms, drugs and counterfeit money to weapons of mass destruction, stolen antiquities and even human slaves." Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), Matthew Carnahan ("Dirt") and Michael De Luca are behind the hour, which is based at Universal Media Studios. Carnahan then will pen the pilot with Fuqua directing. Alissa Phillips and Mary Alice Haney, who originated the project, will co-produce. CBS previously attempted dramas about the agency in 2004 (from Nancy Miller with Melina Kanakaredes attached to star) and 2005 (from Eriq La Salle and writer Michael Steinberg).
THE MENTALIST (CBS) - The Eye has commissioned six additional scripts of the Simon Baker-led freshman drama, an early sign the series is on track for a full season commitment. 15.54 million viewers on average have tuned into the show's first two installments, making it by far and away the most-watched new series thus far.
ONE TREE HILL (The CW) - Creator/executive producer Mark Schwahn has inked a two-year exclusive overall deal with CBS Paramount Network Television. There he'll develop new series projects for the studio. In addition, he'll launch his own imprint on corporate sibling CBS Records. As for "Hill," Schwahn has inked a one-year pact with Warner Bros. Television to continue as showrunner for at least one more season. The series is widely considered a lock to return for a seventh season, assuming the actors sign on for an additional go-round.
