ABC Cuts Its "Motherhood" Short

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC has trimmed its midseason roster once again, this time halting production on newcomer "In the Motherhood" after seven episodes.

The Alphabet ordered the project straight to series back in September with a 13-episode commitment.

It's understood the decision is tied to the network's lack of real estate for the show as previous Thursday, 8:00/7:00c occupant "Ugly Betty" will reassume said slot on May 7.

That, coupled with a modest start (6.7 million viewers, 2.1 rating/6 share among adults 18-49), made the decision not much of a surprise.

Fellow midseason entries "Castle" (10 episodes), "Cupid" (7 episodes) and "The Unusuals" (10 episodes) likewise received cuts for similar reasons.

Escaping the blade: "Better Off Ted" and "Surviving Suburbia," both of which have completed production on their original 13-episode orders.

"Ted" however will wrap its season on April 29, leaving six episodes on the shelf, while "Suburbia" is expected to wrap on May 11 with seven installments still yet to air.
