LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is adding "Brothers" to its freshman class for the 2009-10 season.
The multi-camera comedy - about a retired football player (Michael Strahan) who returns to his hometown and starts working to reconnect with his family, including his wheelchair-bound brother (Daryl "Chill" Mitchell) - has received a 13-episode order.
Carl Weathers, CCH Pounder and Colton Dunn also star in the half-hour, which comes from the Sony Pictures Television-based Tantamount banner. Don Reo penned the script and is executive producing alongside the company's principals Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Mitch Hurwitz. Ted Wass helmed the pilot.
The pickup gives FOX one new comedy in each half-hour format: multi ("Brothers"), single ("Sons of Tucson") and animated ("The Cleveland Show").
The network announces its fall schedule on Monday.
