THESE GUYS REALLY SUNK THEIR TEETH INTO THE BIG APPLE

Discovery Channel's All New Original Special Prehistoric New York Airs Sunday, June 28 at 9pm e/p

All Day Dino Marathon Hosted by Ray Romano and Queen Latifah Celebrating 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Productions' Ice Age III: Dawn of the Dinosaur

(Silver Spring, Md.) - Before the sharks of Wall Street, before the ladies who lunch, before the party animals of Studio 54, a different kind of species roamed New York. Discovery Channel presents an eyepopping journey back in time, a meticulously re-created world hundreds of millions of years ago in PREHISTORIC NEW YORK Sunday June 28 at 9pm e/p.

The all new PREHISTORIC NEW YORK caps a day long marathon beginning at 12:00 noon of Discovery Channel's best dinosaur specials marking the release of 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Productions' Ice Age III: Dawn of the Dinosaur. The marathon, hosted by the film's stars Ray Romano and Queen Latifah, features exclusive clips of Ice Age III which opens nationwide Wednesday, July 1. The marathon includes RAISING THE MAMMOTH and SECRETS OF THE DINOSAUR MUMMY. This marks the second collaboration between Discovery Channel and 20th Century Fox. The two teamed together in 2002 for Ice Age I with Ray Romano hosting the premiere of PREHISTORIC BEASTS on Discovery Channel.

Only four hundred years ago, Manhattan Island was a lush landscape of streams and marshes occupied by the Native American Lenapes tribe. But 200 million years PREHISTORIC NEW YORK was a region that was a semi-tropical landscape rattled by earthquakes and scarred by lava flows. It was home to a bizarre array of amphibians and reptiles, including the dinosaur Coelophysis, a meat-eating, ostrich-like creature.

PREHISTORIC NEW YORK introduces a variety of amazing animals and surprising facts. Mastodons roamed the streets of what is now Manhattan. Scientists believe the honey locust trees that now line Fifth Avenue near Rockefeller Center evolved their thorns to protect them from munching by these mastodons. "This is Discovery at its very best. PREHISTORIC NEW YORK offers incredible information coupled with colorful storytelling and brought together with jaw-dropping CGI. Hats off to our talented production team," said John Ford, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel.

In addition to wildlife, PREHISTORIC NEW YORK details just how the entire region was shaped. New York City marks the southernmost boundary of an ice sheet that covered much of North America. The Laurentide ice sheet advanced and retreated over a period of 60,000 years. Two lobes surged down the Connecticut and Hudson River valleys, sculpting the now iconic outline of Manhattan Island.

PREHISTORIC NEW YORK is produced for Discovery Channel by Flight 33 Productions. Louis Tarantino and Douglas Cohen are executive producers. For Discovery Channel, Brooke Runnette is executive producer.
