AMC Casts Mireille Enos in Lead for Network Pilot, The Killing (wt)

Patty Jenkins Set to Direct

Production Begins May 10th in Vancouver

New York, NY - April 22, 2010 - AMC announced today that Tony nominated actress for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," Mireille Enos, (HBO's Big Love) has been cast as the lead role of "Sarah" in original drama The Killing (working title), a network pilot order written and executive produced by Veena Sud (Cold Case). Patty Jenkins (Monster) is set to direct. The project, based on the wildly successful Danish series "Forbrydelsen," tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation. Produced by Fox Television Studios, The Killing is executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen (Burn Notice) for Fuse Entertainment. Fuse's Kristen Campo co-produces. Production on the pilot is scheduled to begin Monday, May 10th in Vancouver.

"The Killing is alone in its class in terms of the quality of the storytelling. We have never seen a stronger script from the crime scene genre. The pilot is a very exciting next step in our continuing commitment to presenting smart, sophisticated storytelling with broad appeal," said Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior vice president of original programming, production and digital content.

"We are thrilled to have found our 'Sarah' to complete an incredible ensemble cast. Mireille is a phenomenal actor and really embodies an ability to portray a depth and richness of character pivotal to this show, which I like to think of as a character study masquerading as a police procedural," said Patty Jenkins.

As "Sarah," Mireille Enos portrays the lead homicide detective that investigates the death of Rosie Larsen. Previously announced castings include: Billy Campbell (Once and Again, Enough) as Darren Richmond, Seattle's City Council President, running for Mayor; Michelle Forbes (True Blood) as Mitch Larsen, the victim's mother; Brent Sexton (W., In the Valley of Elah) as Stan Larsen, the victim's father; Eric Ladin (Generation Kill) as Jamie Dempsey, Darren Richmond's brilliant young campaign manager; Jamie Anne Allman (The Notebook) as Terry, Mitch Larsen's younger sister and Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash) as Stephen Holder, an ex-narc cop who joins the homicide division in the investigation to find Rosie Larsen's killer.

The Killing ties together three distinct stories around a single murder including the detectives assigned to the case, the victim's grieving family and the suspects. Set in Seattle, the story also explores local politics as it follows politicians connected to the case. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents in The Killing. Everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they've moved on, their past isn't done with them.
