By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

CINEMA VERITE (HBO) - Patrick Fugit and Shanna Collins are the latest additions to the docudrama, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the groundbreaking 1973 PBS documentary series "An American Family." They'll play Alan and Susan Raymond, the young filmmakers behind "Family," which infamously tracked Santa Barbara couple Pat (Diane Lane) and Bill Loud (Tim Robbins) and their family in one of the earliest "reality series." James Gandolfini also stars as the documentary's producer with Dekker as the Loud's oldest son, Lance, and recent addition Caitlin Custer as daughter Delilah. David Seltzer penned the script to the film, to be directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini.

THE HARD LIFE (CMT) - Matthew Lillard and Gillian Vigman are set to topline the single-camera comedy pilot, which "explores the contrast of modern parenting vs. old school parenting." They'll play parents Bobby (Lillard), "charming and witty and tries to be a good father and a good husband but finds it hard to be both things at the same time," and Gina (Vigman), "a caring, well-intentioned but tightly-wound former career woman-turned-full-time mom who is overprotective of her girls." Bill Diamond is behind the project.

OUTSOURCED (NBC) - Victor Nelli Jr. ("Ugly Betty") has joined the newcomer as an executive producer. There he'll serve as inhouse director alongside Ken Kwapis, who helmed the pilot. Robert Borden is behind the half-hour, which is set up at Universal Media Studios and Kwapis's In Cahoots banner.

SHADOWS (ABC Family, New!) - Jesse Peyronel has booked a script order from the cable channel for a new drama about "a secret program at Harvard designed to train a new generation of spies." Rene Rigal and Mal Young co-created the hour alongside Peyronel and will executive produce with State Street's George Tillman Jr., Matthew Pritzker and Robert Teitel. No other specifics were given.

TERRA NOVA (FOX) - Jason O'Mara has closed his deal to topline the upcoming Steven Spielberg-produced drama, about "an ordinary family embarking on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a massive experiment to save the human race." He'll play Jim Shannon, "a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family through this new land of limitless beauty, mystery and terror." Alex Graves is helming the pilot to the project, which was created by Craig Silverstein and Kelly Marcel. 20th Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment, DreamWorks Television and Kapital Entertainment are co-producing.
