|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
THE BIG C (Showtime) - Reid Scott ("My Boys") is set to recur on the freshman comedy, about a repressed suburban wife and mother (Laura Linney) who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. He'll play her oncologist, Dr. Todd, who "has lots of training and intellect but lacks life or professional experience."
THE CLEVELAND SHOW (FOX) - Network siblings Adult Swim and TBS are set to share the show's off-network rights, which begin in the fall of 2013. It's understood the pact with Twentieth Television, which is still being finalized, is valued at around $500,000 per episode. No other details were given.
ERNESTO (FOX) - Actor/producer Wilmer Valderrama has inked a development deal with 20th Century Fox Television. The pact calls for him to topline and executive produce a series project for the studio. Valderrama previously did the same on the 2008 pilot "Ernesto," which wasn't ordered to series, and was attached to a Cesar Millan autobiographical comedy last year, which didn't make it past the script stage. Separately, the actor has an overall deal with RelativityReal, where he's developing projects behind the camera.
FRINGE (FOX) - Amy Madigan ("Grey's Anatomy") has been cast as the until-now unseen mother of Anna Torv's character. She'll appear in four episodes of the show's upcoming third season, beginning with the season premiere.
GLEE (FOX) - Oscar-winner Javier Bardem reportedly is set to appear on the show's upcoming second season. He'll play "a rock star who befriends Artie (Kevin McHale)," an idea that was pitched to co-creator Ryan Murphy, with whom he worked on this summer's Julia Roberts-led feature Eat Pray Love.
OUTLAW COUNTRY (FX) - Luke Grimes and Haley Bennett have joined the cast of the drama pilot, while Michael Dinner has been tapped to direct. He'll play Eli Larkin, "a half-cowboy, half-modern guy who tries to get out of the crime ridden life he has grown accustom to in order to help his siblings," while she's set as Annabel Lee, "a gorgeous country singer who is living in the shadow of her overprotective mother (Mary Steenburgen)." Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz are behind the hour, which comes from Fox Television Studios, FX Productions and Linson Entertainment.
OUTSOURCED (NBC) - Australian actress Pippa Black has joined the cast of the Peacock's new comedy, about a call center in India managed by an American transplant (Ben Rappaport). She'll play Tonya, the "athletic, statuesque" Aussie who runs a fellow call center in the same building. Jessica Gower originated the role in the pilot and is being recast. No reason for the change was given.
UNTITLED LAURIE ANN GIBSON PROJECT (E!, New!) - Lady Gaga choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson is set to star in a potential reality series at the cable channel which revolves around choreographers and dancers in Los Angeles. Ryan Seacrest Productions is behind the project, which has a pilot commitment. It's understood Gibson will be joined by a few other cast members however no specifics were given.
