LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

DEATH VALLEY/THAT GIRL (MTV) - The cable channel has given 12-episode orders to both half-hour projects. "Death Valley" revolves around the Undead Task Force, "an elite branch of the LAPD that was formed in 2009 when the San Fernando Valley became overrun by zombies, vampires and werewolves." Caity Lotz, Tania Raymonde and Charlie Sanders co-star in the series, which comes from executive producers Austin Reading, Julie Kellman Reading, Eric Weinberg and Tim Healy. "That Girl" is billed as "an irreverent look at the conflict, chaos and comedy that is contemporary teenage life through the eyes of 15 year-old Jenna Hamilton, who launches from social misfit to 'that girl' when an accident leads everyone to believe she tried to commit suicide." Said half-hour comes from creator Lauren Iungerich and director Millicent Shelton.

GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Rachael Taylor ("Transformers") has landed an arc on the veteran medical soap. She'll play a new doctor on the series, however no specifics were released.

MAYORS OF CASTERBRIDGE (NBC, New!) - Actor Ryan Reynolds has booked a new comedy at the Peacock, about "four elder statesmen of a classic American Neighborhood who have their community threatened by a young upstart determined on making Casterbridge just another homogenized tract home complex." Craig Doyle penned the half-hour, which comes from Warner Bros. Television. Reynolds and Jonathon Komack Martin then will executive produce via their Dark Trick Films banner alongside Doyle. It's understood Reynolds, whose initial claim to fame was the ABC comedy "Two Guys and a Girl," hopes to cameo in the pilot and potentially recur on the series.

PRIVATE PRACTICE (ABC) - Cristian de la Fuente has scored a potentially recurring role on the series. He'll play Eric Rodriguez, "a self-possessed, confident, wickedly funny and - just guessing here - fairly attractive new doctor." He'll make his first appearance in late October or early November.

TIME TRUMPET (Comedy Central, New!) - The cable channel has ordered a pilot for a new comedy based on the BBC2 series of the same name. Said half-hour is billed as "an historical documentary, or a look at the news of today -- often political or social in nature -- as told from the future." Armando Iannucci, who was behind the original series, is on board to supervise the U.S. incarnation with additional auspices yet to be named.
