|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
GOSSIP GIRL (The CW) - Kaylee Defer ("The War at Home") is set to recur on the netlet's signature soap. Details about her character however weren't released. In addition to "Gossip Girl," Defer has a multi-episode arc on NBC's upcoming comedy "Friends With Benefits."
HALLELUJAH (ABC, New!) - Marc Cherry ("Desperate Housewives") has booked a new drama at the Alphabet about the tiny town of Hallelujah, Tennessee, which "finds itself being torn apart by the forces of good and evil. Prospects improve, however, when a stranger moves into town, looking to bring justice, peace and a little bit of faith to its residents." Cherry penned the potential hour and is executive producing alongside Sabrina Wind for ABC Studios.
HEAVY & ROLLING (Showtime, New!) - Jeremy Miller and Dan Cohn ("Entourage") have landed a script commitment from the pay channel for a new comedy about "a towncar driver in Manhattan who assumes different identities as he teeters on the brink of madness." The pair penned the half-hour and are executive producing alongside Dave Schiff ("That '70s Show") and actors/producers Ryan Phillippe and Breckin Meyer.
MOTHER OF ALL SOMETHING (CBS, New!) - Veteran blogger Kelly Oxford has landed a potential comedy at the Eye based on her experiences as a stay-at-home mother of three. Jhoni Marchinko ("Will & Grace") is supervising the CBS Television Studio-based half-hour, which also has Jessica Alba attached as an executive producer.
PERFECT COUPLES (NBC) - The Peacock has booked a sneak preview of the series for Monday, December 20 at 10:00/9:00c following the season finale of "The Sing-Off." Said installment, "Perfect Tens," isn't the pilot, but rather a later installment in the series. "Couples" then formally premieres Thursday, January 20 at 8:30/7:30c on the network.
RULES FOR MY UNBORN SON (FOX, New!) - Walker Lamond's book, "a collection of traditional, humorous, and urbane fatherly advice for boys," is being developed as a comedy for the network. Jeremy Miller and Dan Cohn ("Entourage") are behind the half-hour, which will center on Miles, "a 25 year-old underachiever adopted and raised by a family of eccentric intellectuals." 20th Century Fox Television and DreamWorks Television are co-producing with the latter's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey presumably executive producing alongside Miller and Cohn.
THE SING-OFF (NBC) - Executive producer Joel Gallen has inked a one-year, first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television. The pact gives the studio first crack at the output from Gallen's Tenth Planet Productions. In addition to "Sing-Off," Gallen is also behind MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew," which returns for its sixth season in April.
TORCHWOOD (Starz) - Bill Pullman ("Revelations") is the latest addition to the show's upcoming fourth season. He's on board as Oswald Jones, "a dangerously clever convicted murderer who escapes his lifelong prison sentence on a technicality and quickly becomes a media sensation. Genuinely repentant yet boiling with lust and rage, Oswald gets caught up in a terrifying worldwide crisis." He joins Mekhi Phifer, who was cast earlier this week.
