|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
90210 (The CW) - Co-stars Lori Loughlin and Ryan Eggold will reportedly depart the series after its current third season. The pair, following the exit of Rob Estes last year, were the only adult cast members left on the series. Said development comes as "90210" transitions from high school to college for season four.
ARE YOU THERE VODKA? IT'S ME CHELSEA (NBC) - Julie Larson and Dottie Dartland Zicklin's adaptation of Chelsea Handler's bestselling novel has been ordered to pilot. The multi-camera project, from Warner Bros. Television, revolves around "the lives of a group of twentysomethings living and working together, headed by a very outspoken young woman." Handler, Werner Entertainment's Tom Werner and Mike Clements and Borderline Amazing Productions' Tom Brunelle then will executive produce alongside Zicklin and Larson.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: BLOOD & CHROME (Syfy) - Luke Pasqualino (U.K.'s "Skins") and Ben Cotton ("Hellcats") are the first to be cast in the two-hour backdoor pilot, about a then Ensign William Adama, who "barely in his 20's and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet... the Galactica." The former has been tapped as Adama in the project, a role previously played by Markus Towfigh (as a boy "Caprica"), Nico Cortez (as a young man in "Battlestar Galactica: Razor") and, of course, Edward James Olmos (as an elder in "Battlestar Galactica" proper). Cotton then is set as ECO (Electronic Countermeasures Officer) Coker Fasjovik, a battle-weary officer to whom Adam reports. Jonas Pate is helming the Universal Cable Productions-based project from a teleplay by Michael Taylor.
BRAVE NEW WORLD (NBC) - Peter Tolan has snagged a second pilot order, this time from NBC for his workplace comedy about "a group of unusual characters at Pilgrim Village, a theme park that specializes in re-creations of New England in 1637." The single-camera comedy comes from Sony Pictures Television and Tolan's Fedora Entertainment where he'll executive produce alongside Michael Wimer. Earlier this week, Tolan also received a green light from FOX for "The Council of Dads."
THE EX-MEN (TV Land) - Wayne Knight is set to reteam with his former "3rd Rock from the Sun" co-star Kristen Johnston in the comedy pilot, about three divorced guys who live in an apartment building where their landlord is their sexy female divorce attorney (Johnston). He'll join David Alan Basche and Donald Faison as one of the aforementioned men, Haskell Bing, a perpetual couch potato. Mark Reisman is behind the multi-camera project.
HOUND DOGS (TBS) - Tom Verica, Lolita Davidovich and Laura Bell Bundy are the latest additions to the hour-long pilot, about a minor league team - the Nashville Hound Dogs - as they try to handle life's ups and downs, both in and out of the locker room. He'll play Marty Crowley, the team's "endlessly upbeat, endlessing spinning" general manager; with Davidovich as Iris Hammer, who takes over the team following her much older husband's death; and Bundy as Ginger Ledoux, an unattainable waitress/lounge singer. Ron Shelton ("Bull Durham") is behind the Sony Pictures Television-based project, with Andrea Buchanan, Michele Weisler and Todd DeLorenzo producing. Megan Ferguson also stars as Maybird Strawn, Marty's secretary/right arm who harbors a crush on him.
MY LIFE AS AN EXPERIMENT (NBC) - Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith's small screen take on the book by A.J. Jacobs has been ordered to pilot. The single-camera entry then revolves around "a magazine writer who immerses himself - and his family - in unusual situations for his stories that always reflect back on his marriage." Sony Pictures Television, Reveille and Jack Black's Electric Dynamic are co-producing with Yuspa, Goldsmith and Black executive producing alongside Carolyn Bernstein, Howard T. Owens, Ben Cooley and Priyanka Mattoo.
OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS (ABC, New!) - Hunter Covington ("100 Questions") has booked a pilot commitment from the Alphabet for a new comedy about "a 32-year-old guy who has avoided responsibility his whole life suddenly finds himself with an insta-family when he begins dating a woman with 2 kids, an ex-husband, and ex-in-laws." Stacy Traub and Peter Traugott are also on board to executive produce the multi-camera half-hour for ABC Studios and the latter's Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
UNTITLED PETER KNIGHT PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Peter Knight ("Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire") has snagged a pilot order from the Eye for a workplace comedy "featuring a group of assistants and junior executives as they juggle love, friendship, and the corporate ladder." Said multi-camera project comes from Sony Pictures Television and the studio based Happy Madison. The latter's Doug Robinson then will executive produce alongside Knight. Back in October, Knight received a put pilot commitment from CBS for a different untitled half-hour about a suburban dad of a blended family who has strong opinions about the way of doing things.
UNTITLED WHITNEY CUMMINGS PROJECT (NBC) - The comedian's pilot, about "a young couple and the ups and downs of a committed relationship in today's complicated world," has been greenlit to production by the Peacock. Cummings wrote the multi-camera half-hour, will co-executive produce and star. Universal Media Studios and Scott Stuber Productions then are co-producing with Scott Stuber, Quan Phung and Barry Katz as executive producers. Separately, Cummings has another pilot at CBS, "Two Broke Girls," with Michael Patrick King.
