BBC America Continues to Up Its Slate of U.S. Premiere Sci-Fi Shows
Co-produces three U.S. premiere sci-fi titles including the new season of Being Human
New York - April 20, 2011 - On the back of the buzz building for this weekend's premiere of the new Doctor Who season on Saturday, April 23, BBC AMERICA today announced it is co-producing the new season of Being Human and confirmed airdates for two previously announced co-productions, Outcasts and Bedlam. All titles will air in the channel's Supernatural Saturday line up.
· BBC AMERICA is co-producing the new season of the UK original Being Human. The hit sci-fi show is back for an all-new Season 4 (8 x 60). It opens on the aftermath of the Season 3 finale in which Mitchell fell victim to the wolf-shaped bullet. Written and created by Toby Whithouse (Doctor Who, Torchwood), Being Human is a co-production for BBC AMERICA, BBC Drama Productions and BBC THREE. It is produced by Touchpaper Wales, part of Zodiak Media Group, who are also the distributors. Executive Producers are Toby Whithouse, Rob Pursey for Touchpaper Television and Eleanor Moran for BBC Cymru Wales. Being Human will air Spring 2012.
· The frontier sci-fi drama Outcasts (8 x 60), a co-production of Kudos Film & Television (Law & Order UK, Life on Mars), BBC AMERICA and BBC, stars Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty, The L Word), Liam Cunningham (Clash Of The Titans) and Hermione Norris (MI-5, Wire In The Blood). Created and written by Ben Richards and shot in South Africa, the series takes viewers into a new world as it explores survival, sex, politics and the drive for power in a new post-Earth era. The Executive Producers are Jane Featherstone, Simon Crawford-Collins and Faith Penhale for Kudos and Matthew Read for the BBC. Outcasts premieres Saturday, June 18, 9:00pm ET/PT.
· Bedlam (6 x 60), a co-production of BBC AMERICA and Red Productions (Queer as Folk), stars singer and actor Will Young (Pop Idol winner, Skins), Charlotte Salt (The Tudors) and Joanna Page (Gavin & Stacey). It is written by Neil Jones, David Allison and Chris Parker, the Executive Producer is Nicola Schindler for Red Productions. Set in Bedlam Heights - an apartment building converted from a pre-Victorian lunatic asylum - the inhabitants experience the darker side of the building's history when former asylum spirits come back to claim what they believe to be theirs and seek revenge on those who have wronged them. Bedlam premieres Saturday, October 8, 9:00pm ET/PT.
