"Person of Interest," "Two Broke Girls" First to Series at CBS; Sarah Michelle Gellar-Led "Ringer" Shifts to The CW
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS dipped its toes into the 2011-12 season pickup waters this afternoon with series commitments to drama "Person of Interest" and comedy "Two Broke Girls."

"Girls," from co-creators Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings, revolves around two struggling waitresses at a Brooklyn diner (Kat Dennings, Beth Behrs) who aspire to open their own cupcake shop. Garret Morris, Jonathan Kite and Matthew Moy also star in the project, which is set up at Warner Bros. Television.

"Interest," from Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions, tracks an ex-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel), presumed dead, who is recruited by a crazy billionaire (Michael Emerson) to help fight crime in New York City. Jonah Nolan created the hour, which is also executive produced by Bryan Burk and J.J. Abrams. Kevin Chapman and Taraji P. Henson also star.

Abrams and Burk also serve as executive producers on FOX's "Alcatraz," which received a series order earlier this week, while Cummings wrote and stars in "Whitney," which likewise got a series commitment from NBC.

[UPDATED 2:17 PM!] Meanwhile, another CBS drama pilot, "Ringer," is apparently a go... at sibling The CW. The Sarah Michelle Gellar-led series revolves around Bridget Cafferty (Gellar), a troubled young woman who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, Siobhan Marx (also Gellar), until she learns that her twin's life has a bounty on it as well.

Tara Summers, Ioan Gruffudd, Mike Colter and Nestor Carbonell also star. ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios are behind the project, which was created by Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder.
