CBS Cancels "Suspect Behavior," Renews "CSI: NY"; The CW Keeps "One Tree Hill," "Nikita," Drops "Hellcats"
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS has canceled its much-ballyhooed "Criminal Minds" spin-off "Suspect Behavior" while "CSI: NY" is moving forward with an eighth season.

"Very pleased to announce - CSI: NY will return for Season 8," executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer said via his Twitter account. Co-stars Gary Sinise and Hill Harper followed with their own enthusiastic tweets.

The news comes on the eve of the Eye's upfront presentation to the advertising community tomorrow.

Also likely due back: "Blue Bloods," with Ed Zuckerman ("The Whole Truth") taking over as showrunner.

Meanwhile, The CW has renewed both "One Tree Hill" and "Nikita" while "Hellcats" won't be back for a sophomore run. In addition, the netlet is moving forward with two new dramas: "Secret Circle" and "Hart of Dixie." The duo will be joined by CBS import "Ringer."

"Dixie" stars Rachel Bilson as a New York City doctor who inherits a medical practice in the oddball town of BlueBell, Alabama. Leila Gerstein is behind the hour, which comes from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Warner Bros. Television-based Fake Empire. Cress Williams, Jaime King, Scott Porter and Wilson Bethel also star.

"Secret Circle," based on L.J. Smith's young adult novel, tracks a California teen (Britt Robertson) who moves to her mom's hometown of New Salem, Maine and discovers that she comes from a family of witches. The ensemble also features Ashley Crow, Gale Harold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Louis Hunter, Natasha Henstridge, Phoebe Tonkin, Shelley Hennig and Thomas Dekker. Kevin Williamson is among the executive producers for Alloy Entertainment, CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television.

The CW presents its 2011-12 season lineup on Thursday.
