Development Update: Wednesday, June 1
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

DIRTY (HBO, New!) - British writer Danny Brocklehurst ("Shameless") is developing a new comedy at the pay channel about "a Chicago cop involved in illicit affairs on and off the job." Caryn Mandabach and Andrea Arnold ("Fishtank") are also on board to executive produce the half-hour, with the latter attached to direct. Brocklehurst however isn't a stranger to the U.S.: he was behind the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama "Life After Marriage" which didn't go to pilot this past development cycle.

FAMILY ALBUM (FOX) - Co-creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have inked a two-year overall deal with producer 20th Century Fox Television. The pact, financial details of which weren't released, calls for the duo to join the studio's "New Girl" as co-executive producers. They'll also continue to shepherd "Family Album," which is now set to film a second episode before FOX makes a final decision on whether to order it to series.

THE FIRM (NBC) - Josh Lucas is in final negotiations to topline the upcoming drama, a small screen follow up to John Grisham's best-selling novel of the same name. He'll play Mitchell McDeere in the project, a role originated by Tom Cruise in the feature film incarnation. The Peacock announced earlier this month the Entertainment One-based project would air Sundays at 10:00/9:00c come midseason. Grisham, John Morayniss, Lukas Reiter, Michael Rosenberg and Noreen Halpern are the executive producers.

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS (USA) - Andrea Anders ("Mr. Sunshine") has booked an arc on the cable channel's summer series, about a tough, sexy Long Island divorcee (Callie Thorne) who gets a job as therapist for a professional football team in order to make ends meet. She'll play a PR executive/old flame of Marc Blucas's character, the team's trainer, in at least three episodes. The project rolls out Wednesday, June 29 on the network.
