DISCOVERY FIT & HEALTH GREENLIGHTS FULL SEASON OF HIT SPECIAL "FACING TRAUMA"
--FACING TRAUMA Features Plastic Surgeon Who Rebuilds Lives Ravaged by Violence; Series to Premiere in 4Q 2011--
(Silver Spring, Md.) - Discovery Fit & Health announced today it has ordered a full season of FACING TRAUMA, following the success of the one-hour original special that premiered on the network in February 2011. Produced by Park Slope Productions, the series will continue to follow the work of Dr. Andrew Jacono, a world-class facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has made it his mission to serve the victims of devastating acts of domestic violence and crime, as well as senseless accidents. The special is one of Discovery Fit & Health's highest rated telecasts since the network's launch in January. Discovery Fit & Health has ordered five additional one-hour episodes of FACING TRAUMA, to begin airing in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Part case study, part survival journey, FACING TRAUMA chronicles the harrowing stories of women who have been left disfigured from violent circumstances, as they struggle to reconstruct their lives both physically and emotionally. From the initial consultation to the final reveal, FACING TRAUMA follows Dr. Jacono and his team as they work to heal both the internal and external scars of victims. The series will see the addition of licensed clinical psychiatrist, Dr. Janet E. Taylor, a certified life coach who specializes in battling the emotional impact of mental illness. Dr. Taylor writes a regular column titled "Ask Dr. Janet" for Family Circle Magazine, and is regularly featured as an expert on The Today Show, The Early Show, Dr. Oz, and Nancy Grace.
"We are thrilled to bring FACING TRAUMA to series," said Laura Michalchyshyn, president and general manager of Discovery Fit & Health. "These women have captivating stories of human drama, and are brave enough to share their experiences on camera to help others heal. Discovery Fit & Health aims to empower, engage and inspire our viewers, giving a voice to those without a platform to share their amazing stories of human development and transformation."
Each of the five one-hour episodes of FACING TRAUMA will feature two stories of victims and their journey to recovery with Dr. Jacono and his team, as well as counseling sessions with Dr. Taylor. Discovery Fit & Health has expanded the series beyond domestic violence to also include victims of violent crime and accidents.
FACING TRAUMA is produced for Discovery Fit & Health by Park Slope Productions. Paul Reitano and Terrence Sacchi are executive producers for Park Slope Productions. Executive producers for Discovery Fit & Health are Lynn Sadofsky and Lynne Kirby.
