Cartoon Network announced today details for its second annual MOVE IT MOVEMENT TOUR, a summer campaign targeting youth 6-14, in partnership with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition. The 10-week tour will launch June 3 in Atlanta - on the heels of National Physical Fitness & Sports Month in May - and travel clockwise across the country to prime family locations in 20 key markets. The tour will ultimately make its way back to the east coast, concluding Aug. 10 in Washington, D.C.
Presented in a themed, exciting and fun outdoor environment, the MOVE IT MOVEMENT TOUR will feature multiple activity and learning stations, incorporating such additional core partner organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), FDA's Spot the Block, NBA/WNBA FIT, NFL PLAY 60, The PGA and HOPSports. A national PSA spot to promote the tour and its online educational components will premiere today, May 31, at 7 p.m. on Cartoon Network. Joining Cartoon Network as co-sponsors of the 2011 tour are Crayola, Columbia Pictures'/MGM's Zookeeper, in theaters July 8, and the FDA.
The MOVE IT MOVEMENT TOUR is part of Cartoon Network's long-established, award-winning pro-social efforts to provide support and encouragement in the ongoing battle against childhood obesity through such varied activities as daily recess, health & wellness education and active after-school involvement. The in-market traveling tour will be supported extensively by Cartoon Network and its participating cable affiliates. Top markets currently scheduled for the 2011 tour route include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston, Miami, Detroit, San Francisco, Cleveland, Sacramento, Phoenix, Seattle, San Antonio, Denver, and Minneapolis.
In an effort to sustain daily fitness and positive nutritional behavior, Cartoon Network is partnering with the President's Council on Fitness, Sport & Nutrition to promote youth and family registration and participation - both in-school and at after-school facilities - in the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). The MOVE IT MOVEMENT TOUR will spotlight the PALA program at the FDA activity station, and feature it among Cartoon Network's on-air and digital platforms. PALA was developed to encourage more activity in daily life by awarding participants who commit to daily physical activity - 60 minutes a day, five days a week for kids; 30 minutes a day, five days a week for adults - for six out of eight weeks.
"We are proud to be involved with a great partner in Cartoon Network to help further our common goal of motivating kids, families and communities to discover new and fun ways to get and stay active," said Shellie Pfohl, executive director of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.
"Cartoon Network has a deep-seated commitment to leverage our significant brand assets, resources and relationships to empower kids with ways they might live a more balanced and healthy lifestyle," said Stuart Snyder, president of Cartoon Network. "Our goal is to make these learning opportunities a truly immersive experience."
"Cartoon Network is committed to using the power and reach of our screens to improve youth and family health," added Alice Cahn, Cartoon Network vice president of social responsibility. "The MOVE IT MOVEMENT demonstrates the power technology has to inspire physical activity in ways that resonate with young people's lives. Whether it's through our live national tour, interactive digital activities, or motivational messages and fitness tips from world-class athletes, the MOVE IT MOVEMENT meets kids where they are with information they want and need.
