GOSSIP GIRL (The CW) - Brian J. Smith ("Stargate Universe") has been tapped as a potential love interest for Blake Lively's character. He'll befriend Serena in the show's September 26 season opener, which follows up on her decision to spend the summer in Los Angeles.

HARRY'S LAW (NBC) - Mark Valley ("Human Target") has joined the cast of the series, which returns for its sophomore season on Wednesday nights this fall. He'll play Oliver Richard, one of two new attorneys at the firm run by Harriett "Harry" Korn (Kathy Bates). Karen Olivo was previously cast as the other hire, Cassie Reynolds. The duo join Alfred Molina and Jean Smart, who will recur as part of a high-profile murder trial that opens the season, and Christopher McDonald, who was recently upped to a series regular.

HAWAII FIVE-0 (CBS) - Lauren German ("Happy Town") has joined the cast of the show's sophomore season. She'll play "a smart and beautiful former Homeland Security officer who has been hand-picked by the new Governor (Richard T. Jones) to join the Five-0 task force." Her character is billed as a potential love interest for Alex O'Loughlin's character. Other new faces this season, due Monday, September 19, include Terry O'Quinn, Tom Sizemore and newly promoted series regular Masi Oka.

MURDER POLICE (FOX, New!) - Jason Ruiz and David A. Goodman have booked a new animated comedy at the network about "bumbling homicide detectives who are trying to do their jobs but are just not very good at it." Said project is part of a one-year overall deal Ruiz has inked with 20th Century Fox Television. The duo last teamed for "Fathers & Son," another animated effort at FOX that didn't move forward to series.

UNTITLED PHIL SPECTOR PROJECT (HBO) - Bette Midler has reportedly dropped out of the project, citing a medical issue. She had been set to play Linda Kenney Baden, "a defense attorney who represented the music producer Spector (played by Al Pacino) during his first trial for murder." Writer/director David Mamet and producer Barry Levinson are behind the telefilm, which will recast said role.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (The CW) - David Gallagher ("7th Heaven") has booked a role on the show's third season. He'll play werewolf Ray Sutton, who "will have a grim run-in (a howlingly bad time?) with Klaus in Tennessee," in the season's two opening installments. The series returns Thursday, September 15.
