OVATION CELEBRATES THE GREAT UKULELE COMEBACK WITH THE US TELEVISION PREMIERE OF MIGHTY UKE TUESDAY, AUGUST 16
Santa Monica, CA, July 21, 2011 --- Charting the comeback of a musical underdog, MIGHTY UKE, a documentary film that has won the hearts of film festival goers across the country, is making its US television debut on Ovation Tuesday, August 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
MIGHTY UKE deftly illustrates how this tiny instrument's rich history has unfolded and has had a profound affect on music around the world. The documentary takes viewers from the uke's earliest days as the musical instrument of the Hawaiian royal court to its rise to fame during Hollywood's golden age and on to its fade into obscurity during the advent of rock 'n' roll. With the internet age, however, the ukulele is experiencing a remarkable comeback and is making new fans of all ages. This fascinating film is packed with historical tidbits, personal stories and entertaining performances.
"The much maligned little ukulele deserves some respect, and MIGHTY UKE gives it in spades. What's more, the film is fun," said Kris Slava, SVP, Programming, Ovation. "MIGHTY UKE is a loving portrait of an under-appreciated instrument now experiencing an incredible resurgence in popularity. This is a heart-warming film that is as informative as it is entertaining. Ovation is the perfect venue for its national debut."
MIGHTY UKE is a film by Tony Coleman and Margaret Meagher for Tiny Goat Films Ltd. For more information on program scheduling, visit www.ovationtv.com.
