CRIME VICTIMS AND OFFENDERS COME FACE-TO-FACE ON THE NEW OWN: OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK REALITY SERIES, "CONFRONTING," PREMIERING SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

New Series Documents Mediation Process as Individuals, Brought Together by One Life-Changing Criminal Act, Attempt to Find Closure

Prison mediation programs currently exist in almost every state across the country. The new OWN docu-series, "Confronting," takes viewers inside the mediation process as a victim and offender come together, face to face, for the most important conversation of their lives. "Confronting" debuts on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Each one-hour "Confronting" episode follows an emotional story that begins with a crime. It brings together victim and offender, documenting their powerful, painful and transformative journey, as they both try to come to terms with the terrible event that links them. The mediation process culminates in a no-holds-barred in-person meeting in prison. During the emotional confrontation, the offender learns of the pain and suffering caused by his misdeeds and is offered the opportunity to apologize and ask for redemption. Meanwhile, the victim has a chance to express his/her feelings and must ultimately decide whether or not forgiveness is a possibility.

In the premiere episode, Mark and Deb visit Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution to confront Jesse, the man who killed their 21-year-old daughter Jenny in a tragic drunk driving accident. Viewers meet Jenny's family as they struggle to cope with their tragic loss and learn how Jesse and his family have been irreparably altered by the consequences of his poor decisions.

Subsequent episodes follow a woman as she confronts the man who stabbed and killed her mother 19 years ago, as well as a wife and daughter who are terrified to meet the man who beat and suffocated their husband/father.

"Confronting" is produced for OWN by RelativityREAL. It is executive produced by Tom Forman and Jonathan Karsh.
