IN THE U.S., THE "GLEE" CAST IS A TOP 10-SELLING DIGITAL ARTIST OF ALL TIME
(New York, NY; Columbia Records; February 28, 2012) FOX'S smash hit GLEE has reached another amazing milestone this week: music performed by the show's cast ranks No. 8 in the Top 10-selling digital U.S. artists of all time, according to SoundScan. With over 32 million GLEE songs digitally downloaded in the U.S., the show's stellar cast is in the company of pop icons Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Black Eyed Peas.
Most recently, the GLEE cast's versions of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" (45,292 tracks sold to date), Michael Jackson's "Bad" (48,766 tracks sold to date) and "Smooth Criminal" (161,495 tracks sold to date) have been added to GLEE's groundbreaking record for most charted songs by a single act in the Billboard Hot 100 chart history. These standout tracks bring the GLEE cast's grand total of Hot 100 entries to 193, surpassing Elvis Presley, The Beatles and James Brown.
From the anthem hit "Don't Stop Believin'" to the iconic rendition of "Vogue" to the pop phenomenon "Teenage Dream," GLEE has sold more than 42 million songs and over 12 million albums worldwide. GLEE scored three consecutive No. 1 releases with "Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers," "Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna" and "Glee: The Music, Journey To Regionals." The RIAA has certified Platinum (sales in excess of one million units) "Glee: The Music, Volume 1" and "Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album"; and certified Gold (sales in excess of 500,000 units) "Glee: The Music, Volume 2," "Glee: The Music, Volume 3" and "Glee: The Music, Volume 4," the latter of which also received a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
