ABC FAMILY LAUNCHES FULL EPISODE VIDEO APP, NOW AVAILABLE ON THE APP STORE FOR IPAD, IPHONE AND IPOD TOUCH
As part of its ongoing strategy to provide high quality content where and how consumers want it, ABC Family is now making episodes of its most popular series available across iOS devices via new ABC Family App. The new app is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
The ABC Family App, developed by the same team responsible for the creation of the critically-acclaimed ABC Player App, extends the reach of ABCFamily.com's full episode player to provide the network's millennial audience with a variety of convenient, portable viewing options. ABC Family viewers will have the ability to watch free, ad-supported episodes from a variety of popular ABC Family original series, including "Jane By Design," "Pretty Little Liars," "Switched at Birth," and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." Episodes are typically available online and via the app the day after they air on the network.
The ABC Family App will feature some unique functionality, including the ability to "save and recall" the users playback position between iOS devices. The app will also be the first from the Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) to support closed captioning.
In addition to streaming content, users will be able to purchase downloads of episodes via the iTunes Store.
Over the past several years, the Disney/ABC Television Group has consistently launched innovative apps for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. In April 2010, in conjunction with the debut of iPad, DATG became the first to deliver ad-supported, full-length video via the acclaimed ABC Player App. The ABC Player App was recently highlighted as one of Top 25 most downloaded free iPad apps of all time. The app has been downloaded approximately 4 million times, resulting in over 80 million episodes viewed. Other notable DATG apps include the critically-acclaimed ABC News App for iPad and the Emmy Award-winning official Oscars App, which provided unique, backstage viewing experiences for the 83rd and 84th Academy Awards.
Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in over 97 million homes. ABC Family features programming reflecting today's families, entertaining and connecting with adults through relatable programming about today's relationships - told with a mix of diversity, dysfunction, passion, humor and heart. ABC Family's programming is a combination of network defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. ABC Family is also the destination for annual Holiday events with "13 Nights of Halloween" and "25 Days of Christmas." ABC Family. A New Kind of Family
