"JEOPARDY!" WINS A PRESTIGIOUS PEABODY AWARD
CULVER CITY, CALIF. (April 5, 2012) - "Jeopardy!," America's #1 quiz show, was honored with a Peabody Award, one of the most selective and prestigious awards in the industry. This marks "Jeopardy!'s" first win for this honor. The awards panel credited "Jeopardy!" for its role in "encouraging, celebrating and rewarding knowledge."
The George Foster Peabody Awards recognize distinguished achievement and meritorious service by broadcasters, cable and webcasters, producing organizations and individuals. The awards program is administered by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Selections are made each spring by the Peabody Board, a 16-member panel of distinguished academics, television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts. It is estimated that each year the Peabody Awards receive over 1,000 entries. This year, a total of 38 winners were selected.
The awards will be formally presented at a luncheon ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on May 21. Sir Patrick Stewart of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Macbeth," will be the host. For more information, visit www.peabody.uga.edu.
