UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - April 26, 2012 - The most dramatic season in "Biggest Loser" history comes to a close as the contestants reunite and show off their amazing transformations, and the season 13 winner is revealed in the must-see live finale airing Tuesday, May 1 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) on NBC.
It's been an action-packed season for "The Biggest Loser" contestants, from surfing in Hawaii with real-life "Soul Surfer" Bethany Hamilton to revealing their makeovers to loved ones - and First Lady Michelle Obama -- at the White House, where they also got to work out with Mrs. Obama in the show's first-ever White House workout. Now it's down to the last weigh-in, and three finalists are left to compete for the grand prize of $250,000 - brother and sister team Jeremy and Conda Britt (Rockford, Michigan) and former professional wrestler Kim Nielsen (Roswell, Georgia).
Jeremy was eliminated in the April 17 episode, which also saw two players - Mark Cornelison and Buddy Shuh - quitting the show over a twist seen in previous seasons where the eliminated contestants got a chance to return for a high-stakes challenge guaranteeing the winner a coveted spot as a finalist. In the episode airing April 25, Jeremy won that four-part challenge, giving him the chance to compete for the $250,000 prize along with his sister, Conda, and Kim.
The transformations of all of the contestants at finale will be profound, not just for the finalists, but also for the eliminated players who continued to lose weight after returning home from "The Biggest Loser" ranch and are now competing for the "at home" prize of $100,000. After the 14 eliminated contestants weigh in, the "at home," $100,000 prize winner will be announced. Then it's the moment viewers have been waiting for, when the three finalists weigh in one last time and one is revealed as this season's "Biggest Loser" and the winner of $250,000.
Also revealed at the live finale will be the winner of the PALA (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award) challenge, a contestant competition announced by Mrs. Obama during the makeover episode. PALA is a six-week pledge-based program designed to get both adults and children more physically active and healthy, and the First Lady challenged the players to see who can get the most people to sign up under their names on www.nbc.com/pala, with Planet Fitness donating $30,000 worth of gym equipment to the hometown of the winning contestant so that their whole community can get active too.
"The Biggest Loser" is a production of Shine America, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions. Ben Silverman, Dave Broome, JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson and Todd Lubin are the executive producers. David Friedman is also an executive producer for the live finale.
