Olympic Hopefuls Compete to Advance to U.S. Olympic Trials
Live Coverage Begins Friday, 8 p.m. ET- Universal Sports Network
NEW YORK - June 7, 2012 - The road to the London Olympics continues this weekend when NBC presents coverage of the Visa Championships live from St. Louis, Mo. Results of the Visa Championships will determine who qualifies to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Gymnastics competition in San Jose, Calif., airing later this month on NBC and NBC Sports Network. Coverage begins Friday on Universal Sports Network at 8 p.m. ET with day one of the women's competition. NBC will air the men's finals at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday and the women's finals at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Headlining the men's field is Danell Leyva, defending U.S. all-around champion, and 2011 World parallel bars champion, competing against his entire bronze-medal winning 2011 World Championships team: Jake Dalton, Jonathan Horton, Steven Legendre, Alex Naddour, John Orozco and Chris Brooks.
On the women's side, 2011 U.S. and World all-around champion Jordyn Wieber contends with fellow 2011 World team champions Gabrielle Douglas and World vault champion McKayla Maroney, floor exercise World bronze medalist Alexandra Raisman and 2009 World all-around champion Bridget Sloan. 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin is also competing as well as 2008 Olympian Alicia Sacramone, 2011 World team and 2010 World vault champion, and six-time World Championships medalist Rebecca Bross.
NBC's Olympic gymnastics broadcast team of Al Trautwig, Elfi Schlegel, Tim Daggett and Andrea Joyce call the action from St. Louis, Mo.
