New York, NY (August 7, 2012) - Fuse, the national music television network of The Madison Square Garden Company, announced today that it has acquired the rights to air the worldwide television premiere of Re:Generation Music Project, in a deal with GreenLight Media & Marketing. The documentary, premiering August 17th at 10:00pm EST on Fuse, examines the history of different musical genres as some of today's most influential electronic producer/DJs team up with some of the music industry's most established artists to create five revolutionary collaborations.
Previously released for a one-night only theatrical event in select cities nationwide, followed by a night of encore screenings, August 17th marks the first time Re:Generation Music Project will be available to a nationwide television audience. Re:Generation Music Project explores the phenomenon of the DJ's crucial role in the evolution of music through the eyes of Skrillex, Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, Pretty Lights and Crystal Method, as they each re-imagine music collaborating with influential artists from a different genre. The documentary, directed by Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story, My Kid Could Paint That), candidly reveals the artists' creative process as they use technology to mix the musical styles of generations and bring to light the originality of electronic music.
From classical to country to R&B, jazz and rock & roll, no genre is off limits in Re:Generation Music Project, and by the time the credits roll, the talented groups of musicians have created five new original tracks. In the film, the now three-time GRAMMY(R)-winning artist Skrillex heads into a Los Angeles studio with members of the iconic rock band, The Doors, to collaborate on a new song, "Breakn' A Sweat." Meanwhile, The Crystal Method touched down in Detroit to work with Martha Reeves of The Vandellas and two-time GRAMMY winners The Funk Brothers on the R&B number, "I'm Not Leaving." Three-time GRAMMY winner Mark Ronson created a southern brew of New Orleans jazz in "A La Modeliste" that boasts a veritable all-star cast of four-time GRAMMY winner Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and members of The Dap Kings. DJ Premier tapped NAS and Boston's very own Berklee Symphony Orchestra for his "Regeneration," and the documentary culminates in Nashville on the dusty intergalactic twang of Pretty Lights' "Wayfaring Stranger," featuring vocals from two-time GRAMMY winner LeAnn Rimes and three-time GRAMMY winner Dr. Ralph Stanley.
Hyundai served as Re:Generation Music Project's benefactor, in association with The GRAMMYs, as a joint commitment to celebrate innovation in music. A GreenLight Media & Marketing production in association with RSA Films.
