COUNTRY-POP GLOBAL SUPERSTAR TAYLOR SWIFT TO PERFORM NEW SONG FROM HER UPCOMING FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM RED FOR THE FIRST TIME LIVE AT THE "2012 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS"

New York, NY (August 21, 2012) - MTV today announced that superstar, singer-songwriter and six-time Grammy(R) Award-winner Taylor Swift will perform a new song from her upcoming fourth studio album Red for the first time at the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards LIVE from the STAPLES Center on Thursday, September 6 on MTV at 8:00pm ET/PT. In the third VMA performance of her career, the "Best Female Video" award winner will take the stage to give viewers an early listen to what promises to be another meteoric chart-topper for the multi-faceted artist. The network also announced the first confirmed presenters set to appear at this year's show, including: Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and the "Fierce Five," the U.S. Women's Olympics Gymnastics Team that won the team gold medal at the 2012 Olympic games.
Swift joins the extraordinary roster of previously announced performers confirmed for this year's show, which will be a music-lover's paradise filled with head-banging hits and brand new songs from artists that include multi-platinum selling group Green Day; jaw-dropping performer P!nk; megastar Alicia Keys; and British boy band phenoms One Direction, who are first-time VMA performers and nominees. The show will be hosted by Kevin Hart, the actor and comedian known for his sharp tongue and self-deprecating humor, who will leave no stone unturned as he roasts the world's biggest stars in music and entertainment.
Taylor Swift, at the young age of 22, is already a six-time GRAMMY(R) winner, including the youngest "Album of the Year" winner in the history of the music industry's highest honor for her album Fearless, released in 2008. Swift will release her fourth studio album, Red, on October 22, 2012. Her 2010 album, Speak Now, was lauded on Rolling Stone's prestigious "The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time" (by women) list, and Time magazine has named Swift one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She is Billboard's "Woman of the Year," the reigning American Music Awards "Artist of the Year," and both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music's current "Entertainer of the Year." She is also the most awarded star in the history of the Teen Choice Awards, taking home honors for both music and movies. Swift, who writes all of her own songs, has career record sales in excess of 22 million albums and 50 million song downloads. Each of her three studio albums has sold in excess of 5 million copies worldwide, and her most recent album, Speak Now, is one of only 17 albums in the entire history of music to sell more than 1 million copies in a single week. She has had singles top both the country and pop radio charts around the globe, is one of the top 5-selling digital music artists worldwide, and is the top-selling digital artist in country music history.
Earlier this year, Swift wrapped her world tour in support of Speak Now and played 111 shows to more than 1.5 million fans in sold-out stadiums and arenas in 19 countries spanning four continents in 2011 and 2012. Swift voiced the character of Audrey in the 2012 hit movie "Dr. Seuss's The LORAX," and also this year, contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the movie "The Hunger Games." She has hosted Saturday Night Live, appeared in the Garry Marshall film "Valentine's Day," and guest-starred on the Emmy-winning TV drama CSI.
At the Olympics in London, the USA won the country's second women's team gold medal in history (the first was in 1996). The members of the "Fierce Five" are: Gabby Douglas, who also won the women's all-around gold medal; McKayla Maroney, the vault silver medalist; Alexandra Raisman, who won the floor exercise gold medal and the balance beam bronze; Kyla Ross; and Jordyn Wieber. The women, along with other World and Olympic medalists in gymnastics, are preparing for a 40-city, nationwide tour that begins Sept. 8 in San Jose, Calif., and wraps up Nov. 18 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
