By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

GETTING ON (HBO) - Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash have all been cast in the comedy pilot, about the doctors, nurses and administrators working in the women's geriatric wing of a hospital. Melcalf will play Dr. Jenna James, "the overworked temporary Director of Medicine juggling the gig with another one at a nearby hospital," with Borstein as "the head ward nurse named Dawn Forchette, who, while kind and compassionate, struggles with self-esteem and ultimately ends up in inappropriate sexual situations." Rounding out the trio is Nash as Marta Ortley, "a big-hearted practical nurse who only recently returned to this line of work after the real estate market crashed." Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer are behind the half-hour, which is based on the satirical British sitcom of the same name. (TVLine.com)

MARVEL'S S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC) - Newcomer Brett Dalton is the latest to board the pilot, a drama set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the small screen adventures of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, better known as S.H.I.E.L.D. He'll play Agent Grant, a highly-skilled rising star at the agency who's "deadly, precise, and cool under fire - but not so great with the people skills." Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Ming-Na Wen and Clark Gregg also star in the ABC Studios-based hour, to be directed by Joss Whedon from a script he co-wrote with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. (TVLine.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - TNT has resumed production "Dallas" following the death of co-star Larry Hagman over the Thanksgiving weekend (Deadline.com); The CW has expanded the orders of its Wednesday dramas "Arrow" and "Supernatural" to 23 episodes (GreenArrowTV.com); Travis Van Winkle will recur on "Hart of Dixie" as Lemon's (Jaime King) studly cousin who "ends up posing a threat to Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and her hard-earned good standing in Bluebell" (TVLine.com); Audra McDonald will reprise her role as Dr. Naomi Bennett on the series finale of ABC's "Private Practice" (TVGuide.com); David Anders will drop by "Arrow" as a career baddie who's looking "to become the leader of all of the city's unsavory characters" (Zap2It.com);

Taryn Manning has booked a nine-episode arc on Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" as Tiffany Doggett, "a born-again Evangelical with underlying anger issues who doesn't mix well with others" (Deadline.com); Scott Cohen and Richard Kohnke have both landed recurring roles on The CW's "The Carrie Diaries" (Deadline.com); supermodel Karolina Kurkova will guest as herself on "Person of Interest" (THR.com); and D.B. Sweeney has scored an arc on "Touch" as "a threatening, authoritative, forceful and fierce ex-military guy who's an enforcer for Aster Corps" (THR.com).
