MTV'S "WORLD OF JENKS" GOES INSIDE THE POWERFUL JOURNEYS OF THREE YOUNG PEOPLE FACING EXTRAORDINARY CHALLENGES
Award-Winning Documentary Filmmaker Andrew Jenks' Series Returns on Monday, March 4 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT with Expanded Hour-Long Episodes
New York, NY (January 24, 2013) - MTV's "World of Jenks" will return to the network on Monday, March 4 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT with an all new, reinvented second season that dives deeper into the lives of three extraordinary young people. Award-winning documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks joins each on their powerful - and often unpredictable - journeys, spending a year embedded with them across the country. The series will give viewers a deeply personal, inspiring and always entertaining look inside each subject's life as they work to make their dreams a reality, despite their extraordinary circumstances. Over 10 expanded, hour-long episodes, Andrew Jenks will follow the lives of D-Real, Chad and Kaylin, and along the way, give viewers a raw look at their struggles to overcome the constant threat of gun violence, the challenges of living with autism, and battling the fear of cancer returning at such a young age.
D-Real, a 21 year-old born and raised in Oakland, may just be the guy who can save his struggling city. Ranked as one of America's most violent cities, Oakland's homicide rate is still on the rise. D-Real's solution is simple: dance. As a pioneer of Turf Dancing and a Bay Area dance phenom, D-Real is using his incredible talent to put an end to the violence. He was catapulted onto the world stage when a tribute video, "Dancing in the Rain," went viral on YouTube with 5 million hits and counting. D-Real and his family are no exception to Oakland's tough streets. He recently suffered the tragic loss of his brother to gun violence. He also just became a dad, naming his newborn son after his fallen brother. He's on a mission to spread peace, but is also learning what it takes to break the cycle of violence that will always be part of his past.
A fan favorite from season one, Chad is back. Now 21 years-old, Chad gives viewers an unfiltered look at what life is like as a young person with Autism. In season two, Jenks follows Chad during the biggest year of his life as he prepares to graduate from the school that's been his second home, searches for a job, and falls in love for the first time, working to navigate the ups and downs of a relationship. It's a journey from boy to man, and Jenks is with him every step of the way.
An incredibly talented fashion designer living in San Francisco, Kaylin has overcome more in her young age than most do in a lifetime. Before her 24th birthday, Kaylin battled two different forms of primary cancer. It brought her down, but absolutely not out. Now doubling down on life, Kaylin is planning to move across the country to Brooklyn, New York to make her fashion dreams a reality. She'll be leaving behind her family, her friends ... and her health insurance. Beautiful, talented, and blessed with a wicked sense of humor, Kaylin quickly becomes one of the most extraordinary and inspiring individuals Jenks has ever met.
At 19, Andrew Jenks made his first film, HBO's "Room 335," moving into an assisted-living facility for elderly residents in order to capture the true essence of this often overlooked community. Jenks' second film, ESPN's "The Zen of Bobby V" had him spending seven months in Japan filming American baseball manager Bobby Valentine as he managed the Chiba Lotte Marines. Praised by film critics around the world, the film premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. His book, ANDREW JENKS: MY ADVENTURES AS A YOUNG FILMMAKER, comes out March 2013.
