Composer Bear McCreary "Scores" with New Theme for the Starz Original, "Da Vinci's Demons" on iTunes
Song to Hit Friday, April 12 Just Hours Before Highly-Anticipated Premiere of Historical Fantasy From David S. Goyer
Before the anticipated premiere of the STARZ historical fantasy, "Da Vinci's Demons" on Friday, April 12th at 10pm, download the main title theme song on from acclaimed musical composure Bear McCreary ("The Walking Dead," "Battlestar Galatica") on iTunes ($.99). The series centering on a young Leonardo da Vinci in Renaissance Florence is created by David S. Goyer, co-writer of the blockbuster Dark Knight Trilogy, writer of the highly anticipated Man of Steel and story editor for "Call of Duty: Black Ops," and "Black Ops II," the most successful video game franchise of all time.
The original song, by award-winning Bear McCreary, was the composer's first attempt at a score for a period project. With his inventive and very stylized approach, he included work with a music historian, and was able to integrate a historically accurate musical sequence that was written by the Medici family's court composer. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's ability to write backwards and forwards, McCreary composed the theme so it could literally be played backwards and forwards.
Best known for series' themes including "Battlestar Galatica," and "The Walking Dead" and more recently "Defiance," McCreary admits that it was challenging to create music that played to modern audiences but still took viewers 'back in time'. "Da Vinci's Demons," presents a never-before-seen portrayal of one of the most infamous historical figures. While the man depicted in the history books was renowned for his works of art, inventions and for defining the term "Renaissance Man," "Da Vinci's Demons" depicts a young da Vinci on the cusp of greatness, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman. In the series, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time, tortured by his unsurpassed intellect.
