FATHER, DAUGHTER WIN $500,000 ON SEASON FINALE OF "GET OUT ALIVE WITH BEAR GRYLLS"
Hefty First Place Prize Awarded to Lucky & Louie Larson as Pair Endured and Thrived in Grueling Competition
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Aug. 26, 2013 - The father-daughter team of Andrew "Lucky" Larson and Andrea "Louie" Larson were named winners of the inaugural season of the NBC adventure reality-competition series "Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls."
For coming in first place, the Larsons received a grand prize of $500,000.
In Monday's season finale, the Larsons defeated the two remaining teams - Austin and James Vach as well as Chris Winter and Jeffrey Powell - in a final challenge that took place in a wet rainforest amidst torrential downpour that pushed each team to their limits.
Lucky, 58, is a carpenter who specializes in recycling old buildings and used materials. As the rugged outdoorsman, Lucky always assumed he'd have sons and treated his daughters as if they were boys. He resides in Stillman Valley, Ill., with his wife of 30 years who suffers from MS.
Louie, 24, grew up on a goat dairy farm where she spent much of her time outside with her father, a stay-at-home dad who taught her how to hunt, trap, fish, skin an animal and care for the environment. With her upbringing and natural love of feminine things, Louie feels lucky to have grown up to be capable and tough, yet maintaining a girly edge. Louie lives with her husband in Chicago, working as a volleyball coach.
The competition began with 10 teams, all trying to avoid weekly elimination and survive the unforgiving and dramatic landscape of New Zealand's South Island.
