NEW YORK, NY - September 30, 2013 - IFC today announced it hasgreenlit the original series Garfunkel & Oates, featuring the female comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, to join the network's 2014 line-up. IFC also ordered a pilot presentation of American Storage, which follows the unlikely friendship between a storage facility employee and a man who takes up residence in one of the empty units. Additionally, IFC has entered into a first-look deal with the new television division of the popular podcast network Earwolf and is currently developing a comedy project with writer/producer Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Weeds, Boardwalk Empire).
"We are huge fans of Riki and Kate; their humor is fresh and accessible and they'll be a great fit alongside The Spoils of Babylon, Portlandia, Maron and other shows on the horizon," said Jennifer Caserta, IFC's president and general manager. "Everyone we work with shares our sensibility and passion for creating authentic comedies, and these new relationships will further complement our expanding roster of original programming."
Garfunkel & Oates(10x30) centers on the aspirations and misadventures of the female comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome (Garfunkel) and Kate Micucci (Oates), and will spotlight the personal and professional lives of the duo whose career choices - singing satirical and sometimes dirty songs - leaves them with little in common with their peers, and no one but each other to turn to for support and understanding. The series is produced by Abominable Pictures and executive produced by Lindhome, Micucci and Jonathan Stern (Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::).
What happens when a straight-laced employee at a storage facility befriends the eccentric man he discovers living in one of the units? American Storage is based on the short film of the same name co-written by Andrew Jay Cohen (Neighbors) and Brendan O'Brien (Neighbors) and directed by Cohen. Cohen will also direct the presentation, to be produced by Troy Miller and Dakota Pictures (Arrested Development, Flight of the Conchords).
Continuing IFC's successful history of turning popular podcasts into TV shows, including Maron and Comedy Bang! Bang!, the network has signed a first-look deal with the newly minted Earwolf television arm. Earwolf Productions will be developing both podcasts and original ideas for the network.
The initial development project out of the deal, The Embassy, stars comedian and podcast regular James Adomian (Childrens Hospital, Low Hangin' Fruit) who will play multiple characters, and is being co-written by Adomian and Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Mr. Show). Set in the Washington D.C. embassy of the fictional nation of Costa Verde, the series follows a controversial hacktivist as he seeks asylum, with his public antics putting the small country on the world's radar for the first time.
