39 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Matches on ESPN Networks Friday through Tuesday
Mexico to Play Pivotal Qualifying Match Friday; Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman to Host Tuesday's ESPN FC FIFA World Cup Whiparound on ESPN2
ESPN networks will showcase 39 qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup - mostly from Europe - during the upcoming FIFA international match dates on Friday, Oct. 11, and Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) will face the Jamaican National Team on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/WatchESPN. The USMNT qualified for Brazil 2014 in its last World Cup qualifying match in September against Mexico, but will be looking to solidify its roster for the June tournament. Ian Darke, Taylor Twellman and reporter Jeremy Schaap will call the action from Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. Following USA-Jamaica, Mexico will play a pivotal match against Panama on ESPNEWS/WatchESPN at 9:15 p.m. as "El Tri" faces a must-win situation at home. Commentator Fernando Palomo and analyst Alejandro Moreno will be onsite at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City with the call and reporter John Sutcliffe on the sidelines.
Also, ESPN2 will present whiparound coverage - which previously debuted during the September 2013 FIFA match dates - on ESPN FC FIFA World Cup Whiparound from 2:30-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The program will take fans through several live look-ins to on-the-field action and offer highlights of key moments in the games (goals, controversial referee decisions, etc.) from the topline FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Europe. Adrian Healey and Twellman return as hosts with the Whiparound show originating live from the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla.
Germany, a 2010 FIFA World Cup semifinalist, has the chance to qualify Friday in a match against Ireland, airing live on ESPN2 at 2:30 p.m. A total of 11 countries will earn 2014 FIFA World Cup berths by the end of Tuesday. In addition to Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Russia - all playing in matches that will be featured on ESPN networks - along with Uruguay, Colombia, Honduras and Chile could clinch a World Cup spot Friday.
