AMC GREENLIGHTS UNSCRIPTED SERIES "KING OF ARMS," RENEWS "SMALL TOWN SECURITY" FOR THIRD SEASON
New York - October 16, 2013 - AMC announced today that it has greenlit a new unscripted series, King Of Arms, a look inside the raw and highly-competitive world of American arm wrestling. The series hails from Matt Renner and Ethan Prochnik, Emmy(R) Award-winning producers of Deadliest Catch, and Dan Ilani, a partner in Undertow Films, their recently-formed company. King of Arms will follow the members of five arm wrestling clubs, and their friends and families, as they hit the road and wager their rent money, reputations and even their relationships in pursuit of victory. The 10-episode, one-hour, series will premiere in the first quarter of next year, timed to the second half of the fourth season of The Walking Dead.
The network also announced that it was renewing its unique and acclaimed series Small Town Security for a third season. Small Town Security will air with the previously announced second season of Freakshow in the second quarter of 2014.
"King of Arms, Small Town Security and Freakshow all take viewers inside worlds most have never seen, populated by unique and unforgettable characters," said Joel Stillerman, EVP Original Programming, Production and Digital Content. "We are looking forward to bringing these new and returning series to AMC viewers and are very excited to be working with Undertow Films on our new unscripted original, King of Arms."
King of Arms focuses on arm wrestling clubs across America, embedding with teams in Baton Rouge, New York City, Erie, Sacramento and Kansas City. Each episode culminates with high-stakes mano-a-mano combat where brute strength is often defeated by technique, strategy and heart.
Matt Renner, Ethan Prochnik and Dan Ilani from Undertow Films will serve as Executive Producers of King of Arms. The project will be overseen by Eliot Goldberg, AMC's new SVP of Unscripted Programming and Ari Mark, the company's Director of Unscripted Programming.
Small Town Security is the sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant, and just plain unusual series that explores a small, family-run security and private investigation company in Ringgold, Georgia called JJK Security. Executive Produced by Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver of Left/Right Films (This American Life, Mob Wives), the show captures the day-to-day of the business, but it's really about the curiously entertaining and oddly compelling characters that inhabit this world.
