NBC TO TELECAST "AMERICAN COMEDY AWARDS"
May 2014 Special Pays Homage to Those Who Make Us Laugh
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Oct. 23, 2013 - NBC has acquired the "American Comedy Awards," which will be telecast in May 2014 and produced by Don Mischer Productions. Emmy Award winner Don Mischer, Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare will serve as executive producers.
The "American Comedy Awards" will honor those who have achieved new heights during the past year in both film and television, as well as paying tribute to some of comedy's most enduring personalities.
The telecast will acknowledge the work of stand-ups, those who specialize in movies and the actors and actresses who are seen by millions on TV every week.
"For all of the award shows on television not one is devoted to comedy, and that's not so funny. So we're thrilled to be part of a show that will celebrate the community of talented, innovative people who make us laugh each and every day," said Mischer.
"We all love a good laugh and the 'American Comedy Awards' will be full of gut-busting material from the best comedians in our business," said Paul Telegdy, President Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. "With creative genius Don Mischer at the helm, get ready for a night of great hilarity. No joke."
Mischer is a 15-time Emmy winner and has directed or produced some of the biggest live events on television, including the Olympic Opening Ceremony, the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl halftime show.
The "American Comedy Awards" were created by George Schlatter.
