MTV BECOMES THE FIRST NETWORK TO PRE-RELEASE ENTIRE SEASON OF A SERIES EXCLUSIVELY IN AN APP
New Docu-Series "Wait Til Next Year" to Debut Exclusively in MTV App
a Week Before the Television Premiere
New York, Oct. 25, 2013 - MTV today became the first network to pre-release an entire season of a series exclusively on an app. Beginning now, fans can watch all 12 episodes of the new docu-drama "Wait 'Til Next Year" via the MTV app, available on iPhone, iPad and Xbox 360 for Xbox Live Gold members in the U.S., a week before the television premiere on Friday, November 1 at 8pm ET/PT.
MTV's "Wait 'Til Next Year" follows one season on and off the football field for the "Bad News Bears" like loveable Lincoln Park Railsplitters, a team who have lost 43 consecutive games over the course of 5-year losing streak. In a nod to the tradition of fall high school football, the series will air Friday nights on MTV, as fans will get to know the players, cheerleaders, parents and fans who are all on a collective mission to do the one thing no one expects them to do: win. But it's about more than the game. From dating relationships and struggles fitting in, to losing weight and family drama, they deal with the growing pains of high school while uniting first as friends, then as a team and finally as a school hoping to start a new legacy at Lincoln park.
Executive producers on "Wait 'Til Next Year" are Craig D'Entrone, Amelia D'Entrone and Sean Travis. Lauren Dolgen, Jessica Zalkind, Julie Schwachenwald and Sara Cohen are the MTV executives in charge of production. To learn more about the cast and the series, please visit the show page on MTV.com.
This marks the latest in a line of recent innovative experiments by Viacom Music and Logo Group aimed at providing fans with immediate access to exclusive content within its brand apps. Recently, the MTV app saw an 82% increase in install week over week, when MTV launched a flock-to-unlock initiative tied its "Miley: The Movement" documentary where fans banded together to tweet #UnlockMiley to access two new clips from the doc exclusively through the app. Earlier this week, MTV's sister channel, VH1, made its highly anticipated biopic, "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story" exclusively available in the newly launched VH1 app for a week following its televised premiere and encore.
Both the MTV and VH1 apps provide fans unmatched access to a library of current as well as retro favorites via TV Everywhere. Access to full-length episodes in the MTV and VH1 apps are included as part of a subscriber's TV service package from any one of ten distributors, including AT&T U-verse, Bright House Networks, Cablevision, DIRECTV, EPB Fiber Optics, Hawaiian Telcom, RCN, Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS, which collectively reach almost 50 million homes. Subscribers simply need to sign in with their TV provider credentials to watch full episodes. All users will be able to access original content that extends the narrative of the show, including after shows, cast interviews and original webisodes. In the coming months, Viacom Music and Logo Group will launch similar app experiences for CMT and Logo.
