NETWORK ALSO RELEASES NEW EXCLUSIVE PHOTO OF WILL ROTHHAAR AS LEE HARVEY OSWALD, RE-CREATING LIFE MAGAZINE'S CHILLING BACKYARD PHOTO FROM MARCH 1963

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25, 2013 -- On Sunday, October 27, the National Geographic Channel will sneak peek the first two minutes of its highly anticipated Rob Lowe-starring KILLING KENNEDY during the network's 9:00 p.m. ET/PT world premiere of its two-hour thriller AMERICAN BLACKOUT.

Today's announcement also includes the release of Will Rothhaar's reenactment of the chilling backyard photo taken of Lee Harvey Oswald in March 1963. The incriminating photo, which appeared on a February 1964 cover of LIFE Magazine, shows Oswald standing in his Dallas backyard holding the weapon used to assassinate President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. The photo was taken by Oswald's Russian wife, Marina, played in the film by Michelle Trachtenberg. About KILLING KENNEDY

It's 1959. Two men face major turning points in their lives: one is in Washington, D.C., preparing to announce his presidential candidacy, while the other is at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, renouncing his American citizenship. Two seemingly unrelated occurrences, starting both on a cataclysmic path that would alter the course of history. National Geographic Channel's KILLING KENNEDY, produced by Scott Free Productions and based on the best-selling book by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard, chronicles this buildup to one of America's most shocking events: the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald. Starring Rob Lowe (President Kennedy) and Will Rothhaar (Lee Harvey Oswald), with Michelle Trachtenberg (Marina Oswald) and Ginnifer Goodwin (Jacqueline Kennedy), the film charts the highs and lows of two men, and two relationships, that would eventually intersect with not one but two shocking deaths that stunned a nation. KILLING KENNEDY will premiere in November on the National Geographic Channel in the United States and globally in 171 countries and in 48 languages to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination.

About AMERICAN BLACKOUT

Imagine 10 days of a catastrophic blackout across the United States. No cell phone service, no ATM withdrawals, no working street lights, no available gasoline ... no escape. Fact: It could happen. On Sunday, October 27, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the lights will go out. AMERICAN BLACKOUT, National Geographic Channel's two-hour, edge-of-your-seat movie event imagines the story of a national power failure in the United States caused by a cyberattack - told in real time, over 10 days, by those who kept filming on cameras and phones. You'll learn what it means to be absolutely powerless. Gritty, visceral and totally immersive, see what it might take to survive from day one, and who would be left standing when the lights come back on. AMERICAN BLACKOUT combines startling user-generated footage from recent real blackouts and disasters like Hurricane Sandy intercut with dramatic shot footage in feature-film style. Follow the struggles of ordinary Americans wrangling through the chaos, and witness one prepper family who prepared for the worst. More information is available at www.survivetheblackout.com.
