COOKING CHANNEL JUMPS INTO JANUARY WITH "SPICE OF LIFE WITH BAL ARNESON"

New Series Takes Viewers On Adventures In and Out of the Kitchen

Series Premieres Wednesday, January 8th, at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Cooking Channel

NEW YORK - December 10, 2013 - Spice queen Bal Arneson cranks up the fire, flavor and fun in the new Cooking Channel series, Spice of Life with Bal Arneson, premiering Wednesday, January 8th, at 9pm ET/6pm PT. Bal pushes the envelope, both inside and outside the kitchen, combining her trademark spice-infused cooking with a series of daring escapades, from bungee jumping to wilderness camping to competing in a demolition derby. In each episode, Bal whips up several mouthwatering Indian-inspired dishes to keep her friends and family well fed for whatever unexpected adventures await them.

"Bal is a vibrant personality and talented cook with a passion for all things unexpected," said Michael Smith, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Cooking Channel. "Spice of Life with Bal Arneson will satisfy viewers' appetite for adventure and unique, Indian-inspired recipes alike."

Bal Arneson is invigorated by adventure, whether it's a surprise family outing or a scrumptious new recipe, there's never a dull moment. In one episode, Bal tries to speed up a home construction project by feeding her carpenter friend a Spice-infused Steak, then escapes the construction zone by taking her kids on an impromptu bungee-jumping expedition. Another episode finds Bal at the controls of a backhoe, landscaping her yard to make way for a long-planned vegetable garden followed by a festive dinner party to celebrate her bountiful harvest. In another, Bal decides to enter her beat-up car in a demolition derby, but not before fueling up her pit crew with a lunch of Cheeseburgers with Mushrooms and Onions and Cumin-spiced Grilled Corn and revving up her own courage with a meal of Sable Fish Seasoned with Garam Masala.

It all adds up to a deliciously unpredictable and fun-filled series, as Bal finds creative ways to satisfy her voracious appetite for life while feeding everyone around her with her unique, flavorful cooking.

Bal Arneson made her Cooking Channel debut with the daytime show Spice Goddess, which introduced viewers to her passion for Indian-inspired cooking. Growing up in a village in Punjab, India, she learned from her elders the secrets of cooking over the coals of a small clay pit. Since immigrating to Canada more than 20 years ago, she has published two bestselling cookbooks-Bal's Quick and Healthy Indian and Everyday Indian: 100 Fast, Fresh and Healthy Recipes-and has served as a food and wine correspondent for Canada's National Post newspaper. Bal has also appeared as a judge on Food Network's Iron Chef America and Bobby's Dinner Battle. Bal currently lives in Vancouver, B.C., with her two children.

Spice of Life with Bal Arneson is produced by Concentric Entertainment.
