INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY GREENLIGHTS SEASON TWO OF BREAKOUT HIT SERIES "SURVIVING EVIL"
- Actress Charisma Carpenter Signs on to Return as Host -
(Silver Spring, MD) - Investigation Discovery has greenlit its breakout hit series SURVIVING EVIL for a second season. Returning as host is Charisma Carpenter, best known for her role as Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel. SURVIVING EVIL presents stories of victims who fought back against their attackers and, against all odds, survived. Recounted in each survivor's own words, the series is an empowering and inspiring look at true-crime stories in which the victim turns the table on their assailant in order to stay alive. As host, Carpenter provides viewers with a first-person point of view as the survivor of a near-fatal incident endured when she was 22 years old. The 10-episode second season of SURVIVING EVIL begins filming in early 2014.
"As one of ID's biggest hit series of 2013, and one that generated passionate discussion among our viewers, it's with great enthusiasm that we set our sights on a second season of SURVIVING EVIL," said Kevin Bennett, general manager of Investigation Discovery. "We feel especially lucky to welcome back Charisma, who adds an important layer of depth to the series as a survivor and symbol of female empowerment in Hollywood."
"SURVIVING EVIL is relevant and powerful to me, because it offers the rare opportunity to not only show amazing human acts of courage and survival against all odds but to empower our viewers to take charge of their personal safety. That's something to be proud of," said Carpenter.
Carpenter is the survivor of a real-life incident endured when she was 22 years old. The actress and two friends were swimming at San Diego's Torrey Pines State Beach in 1991 when they were violently attacked by an armed, rogue police officer. Carpenter fought for her survival after being held at gunpoint, but her two friends were both shot by the attacker and seriously wounded. The police officer was sentenced to 56 years in prison for the attacks in addition to a series of rapes and robberies.
The record-setting first season, which premiered on Wednesday, August 28 with Carpenter's story, ranked as ID's top series for Prime delivery in 3Q13 among P25-54 (450k) and W25-54 (292k). The series debut on 8/28/13 ranked #9 in its 10-11p time period among all ad-supported cable for P25-54 delivery, beating USA, TNT, AMC, History, TRU, E, SYFY, BET, Lifetime, among others.
SURVIVING EVIL is produced by Cineflix (I Survived) Inc. with Charles Tremayne, Kim Bondi, and Jeff Vanderwal as executive producers. For Investigation Discovery, Pamela Deutsch is executive producer, Sara Kozak is senior vice president of production, Kevin Bennett is general manager, and Henry Schleiff is Group President of Investigation Discovery, Military Channel, and Destination America.
