The 2014 BREAKTHROUGH PRIZES were founded by Silicon Valley's elite minds. The goal of the awards is to recognize excellence in research aimed at curing terminal diseases and ultimately extending and enhancing human life. This award not only celebrates scientists who are already in the field but ultimately hopes to generate excitement in the pursuit of science as a career for others around the world. Laureates receive a total of $21 million in grant money to fund their research and bring their advances to the forefront of medicine and technology. And Science Channel will allow viewers to see the winners and learn about their incredible journeys before anyone else.
The ceremony takes place at the NASA Ames Research Center in Northern California as we celebrate the pinnacle of scientific innovation with celebrities of both worlds joining together for a generous cause.
