BLACK-ISH (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Kenya Barris; D: TBA) - Laurence Fishburne is set for an on-camera role on the comedy pilot, which he's executive producing at the Alphabet. Said effort revolves around Andre "Dre" Johnson (Anthony Anderson), an upper-middle-class black man who struggles to raise his children with some sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old-school father, and his own assimilated, color-blind kids. He'll play said father, Pops. (Deadline.com)
CLEMENTINE (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Dean Georgaris; D: Michael Dinner) - Kevin Alejandro ("Arrow") has scored a role on the drama pilot, about Clementine Ross (Sarah Snook), a habitual criminal who digs into the mystery of her origins after she becomes the target of a group of zealots who fear she possesses latent supernatural abilities that she will one day harness for either profound good or monstrous evil. He's set as Charlie Madsen, "Clementine's ex-boyfriend and father to her young daughter, Lucy, a former bad-boy who transformed into a responsible man when he realized he was going to have to raise Lucy on his own due to Clementine's personal struggles." David Strathairn and Edwin Hodge also star. (Deadline.com)
FLASH, THE (The CW/Warner Bros.; W: Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns & Greg Berlanti; D: David Nutter) - Tom Cavanagh ("Royal Pains") is the latest to board the drama pilot, a small screen take on the DC Comics hero Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a Central City assistant police forensics investigator-turned-superhero. He's set as Harrison Wells, "a rock star in the world of physics and the mind and money behind Central City's S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator. He becomes a pariah after the lab's explosion, but he charts his path to redemption when he discovers that his failed experiment had the unintended consequence of creating the world's fastest man." Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin and Rick Cosnett also star. (Deadline.com)
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Jeff Lowell; D: TBA) - Jade Catta-Preta ("Daddy Knows Best") has been cast in the pilot, a romantic comedy which exposes the unfiltered internal monologues of a young couple, Peter (Jake McDorman) and Dana (Analeigh Tipton), embarking on a new relationship. She's on board as Amy, "Dana's former sorority sister who plays guitar, teaches yoga out of her apartment and trained to be a pastry chef at the Cordon Bleu." (Deadline.com)
NCIS (CBS) - Lucas Black (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) will round out the cast of the show's proposed spin-off, about the NCIS New Orleans office, "which handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle." He will play NCIS Special Agent Lasalle, "who relocated to New Orleans as a kid and is a no-nonsense federal agent who believes in doing what's right no matter what, and a man who works hard and plays harder." Scott Bakula, Zoe McLellan and CCH Pounder also star in the project, which will be set up via two backdoor pilot episodes later this season. (Deadline.com)
OLD SOUL (NBC/Universal; W: Amy Poehler, Jon Fener & Josh Bycel; D: David Wain) - Rita Moreno ("Happily Divorced") is the latest addition to the single-camera comedy pilot, about Nadia (Natasha Lyonne), a young woman who's trying to find herself, but in the meantime she's working as the aide to a group of elderly people. She'll play Rita, "a flamboyant, larger-than-life Broadway vet who has been happily married to her writing partner/husband for over 50 years." (Deadline.com)
ONE BIG HAPPY (NBC/Warner Bros.; W: Liz Feldman; D: Scott Ellis) - Nick Zano ("2 Broke Girls") is the first to be cast in the multi-camera comedy pilot, about Lizzy, a lesbian, and Luke, her straight male best friend, who get pregnant just as he meets and marries the love of his life. He'll play said fellow in the Ellen DeGeneres-produced project, which has also added Scott Ellis as director. (Deadline.com)
PUBLIC MORALS (TNT; W/D: Ed Burns) - Katrina Bowden ("30 Rock") will round out the cast of the drama pilot, about New York City's Public Morals Division circa 1967, where cops walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that come from dealing with all kinds of vice can get the better of them. She'll play "a seemingly sweet and innocent prostitute with street smart edge." Austin Stowell, Brian Wiles, Ed Burns, Elizabeth Masucci, Keith Nobbs, Lyndon Smith, Michael Rapaport, Patrick Murney, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Wass Stevens also star. (Variety.com)
TEACHER, A (HBO, New!) - Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass and Michael Costigan are looking to bring their recent feature - about "a high school teacher in her late 20's in the midst of a torrid affair with one of her students" - to the small screen. Hannah Fidell and Daniel Brocklehurst are co-writing the adaptation with Fidell likewise attached to direct for Cota Films. Costigan and the Duplasses then will executive produce alongside said auspices. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED KZK PROJECT (Netflix/Sony; W: Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman & Glenn Kessler; D: TBA) - Jamie McShane ("Southland") has been cast in the upcoming drama, about a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep brother returns home. He'll play Eric O'Bannon, "a Key West native whose unethical business practices and questionable decision making present a moral challenge for Danny (Ben Mendelsohn)." Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini and Sissy Spacek also star. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED RICHARD LAGRAVENESE PROJECT (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Richard LaGravenese; D: Taylor Hackford) - Taylor Hackford (Parker) has signed on to direct the drama pilot, about "the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others." He'll work from a script by LaGravenese, as well as serve as an executive producer. (THR.com)
WARRIORS (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Chris Keyser; D: Martin Campbell) - Courtney B. Vance ("FlashForward") has joined the cast of the drama pilot, about the best and brightest active duty military doctors and nurses as they practice trailblazing medicine. He'll play Hennessy Fiske, an orthopedic surgeon at Walter Reed staff with a subspecialty in neurology who's also a genius at prosthetic design. Eloise Mumford also stars. (Deadline.com)
YOUR FAMILY OR MINE (A.K.A. TRIBES) (TBS/Sony; W: Greg Malins; D: TBA) - Greg Malins's import of the Israeli series - "a family comedy with an unusual structure: each episode focuses on a different side of the family" - has found a new home at the cable channel. Originally set up at ABC in October of 2012 as a single-camera project, the TBS take - which has a pilot order - has been reconceived as multi-camera. Format creators Rubi Duanias and Yaniv Polishuk are also on board to executive produce, as are Jamie Tarses, Avi Nir, Ran Telem and Teddy Productions' Tamira Yardeni. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Georgina Rylance has departed FOX's event series "Gracepoint" and her role, Gemma, will be recast (Deadline.com); Dan O'Shannon is the latest "Modern Family" executive producer to sign an overall deal, this time a three-year pact at CBS Television Studios (Deadline.com); Roseanne Barr will guest on "The Millers" as "the hyper-critical mother of Nathan's (Will Arnett) co-worker Doug (Andy Richter)" (TVLine.com); Philip Anthony-Rodriguez is bound for three episode of "Grimm" as "a member of Verrat - aka the organization that serves the royal families and wants to keep order in the Wesen world" (TVLine.com); Vinessa Shaw has booked an arc on "Ray Donovan" as "a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for The Boston Globe who is writing a book on Sully (James Woods)" (Deadline.com); and Barry Watson will recur on "Hart of Dixie" as "a southern gentleman who is handsome, quick-witted, and a little bit shy"
