PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH HOSTS STARS AND PRODUCERS OF AMC'S UPCOMING DRAMA, "TURN," FOR PRIVATE SCREENING
Network's Newest Series, Starring Jamie Bell, Tells Story of America's First Spy Ring
Houston, TX, March 29, 2014 - Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife former first lady Barbara Bush hosted the cast, executive producers and several AMC executives today at a private screening of the network's newest drama, "TURN." The series, which stars Jamie Bell, premieres Sunday, April 6 at 9:00 p.m. ET. "TURN" tells the true story of Long Island farmer, Abe Woodhull (Bell), who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who help George Washington turn the tide in America's fight for independence.
President Bush, the only president who also ran the CIA, welcomed "TURN" executive producers Barry Josephson and Craig Silverstein; cast members including: Seth Numrich, Heather Lind, Kevin McNally, Burn Gorman, Samuel Roukin, and Ian Kahn, who plays George Washington in the series; Alexander Rose, author of Washington's Spies, on which the series is based; and several AMC executives including Charlie Collier, President & General Manager and Joel Stillerman, Executive Vice President, Programming, Production & Digital Content.
Following the screening, President Bush stated effusively "AMC put together a brilliant show, a fantastic cast, there's one problem however, and that's waiting till the next episode."
"We are extremely proud of 'TURN,' and are honored that President Bush and Mrs. Bush would host a special advance screening of the premiere," said AMC president, Charlie Collier. "It was utterly fascinating to share the story of America's first spy ring with President Bush, who knows first-hand from his days at the CIA, the danger these men and women faced as spies, and the sacrifices they made which ultimately ensured America's freedom."
Showrunner Craig Silverstein added, "The chance to show the president 'TURN' and introduce him to some of our cast was an incredible privilege for all of us and if he ever needs a side job, President Bush would be welcome in the writers room."
Based on the book "Washington's Spies," written by Alexander Rose, "TURN" is a production of AMC Studios, and is executive produced by Craig Silverstein ("Nikita"), who also serves as showrunner, and Barry Josephson ("Bones," Enchanted) from Josephson Entertainment. The series stars Jamie Bell as Abraham Woodhull, Seth Numrich as Ben Tallmadge, Daniel Henshall as Caleb Brewster, Heather Lind as Anna Strong, Kevin McNally as Judge Richard Woodhull, Meegan Warner as Mary Woodhull, Burn Gorman as Major Hewlett, Angus Macfadyen as Robert Rogers, JJ Feild as Major John André and Samuel Roukin as Captain Simcoe.
