LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

AVENUE OF SPIES (WGN America, New!) - Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) is developing a new drama at the network "set in Nazi-occupied Paris on the eve of World War II, chronicles the true story of an American-born doctor and his family who fall in with the French Resistance, spying from their home just doors away from the Gestapo headquarters and one of Hitler's most feared SS captains." Sony Pictures Television is behind the project, which is based on Alex Kershaw's forthcoming novel of the same name. Graham Yost ("Justified") is also on board as an executive producer, as are Judith Venro and Television 360's Meghan Lyvers, Jill McElroy and Ben Forkner. Kershaw himself will receive a co-executive producer credit. (THR.com)
OPEN CITY (HBO, New!) - Director Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages) and screenwriter David Kajganich (The Invasion) are set to team for a new period drama at the pay channel, which "explores characters from disparate corners of Manhattan as they navigate the cultural revolutions and political turmoil of the [late 1960s], including the unlikely alliance between the Mafia and the city's gay community in the opening of a West Village nightclub." Ronnie Lorenzo, "one of the original owners of the Stonewall Inn, the epicenter of the 1969 Stonewall riots that sparked America's gay rights movement," is aboard as a consulting producer. Shankman's Warner Horizon Television-based Offspring Entertainment producing partner Jennifer Gibgot will also serve as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - E! has passed on its Bethany Joy Lenz-led drama pilot "Songbyrd" (Deadline.com); Melora Hardin will succeed Gillian Vigman on Amazon's "Transparent" as Tammy, "a hip, out lesbian friend of Sarah's who has more on her mind than play dates" (Deadline.com); Anonymous Content has inked a first-look deal with Paramount Television to develop new TV series projects (Deadline.com); Matt Barr and Sakina Jaffrey are two new faces bound for season two of FOX's "Sleepy Hollow" (TVLine.com); Kerr Smith will recur on "The Fosters" as "the man standing between Callie and her official adoption by the Foster clan" (Zap2It.com); and John Wesley Shipp's character on "The Flash" has been revealed as Barry Allen's dad, Henry (TVLine.com).
