Premieres: August 2014
Visit: http://www.sho.com/sho/reality-docs/documentaries#/index
Each year, a week before Labor Day, Burning Man's "Black Rock City" rises from the dust of an ancient lakebed (fondly referred to by the participants as "the Playa") to become Nevada's third-largest population center, an ephemeral metropolis with few regulations and no commerce. It's a "pop-up" city of tens of thousands of strangers who unite around 10 Core Principles - commandments, if you will, like "Decommodification," "Participation" and "Radical Inclusion." The Playa's harsh desert, its citizens, formidable infrastructure, ritual, art, music and technology combine to give Burning Man a sort of community and culture like none other on earth. Through the use of compelling archival footage and interviews with the event's co-founders, in SPARK: A BURNING MAN STORY filmmakers Steve Brown and Jessie Deeter provide us a compelling behind-the-scenes look into Burning Man's history and its ongoing evolution today.

With unprecedented access to David Bowie's personal archive, including previously unseen footage, this is the definitive portrait of one of rock's most influential stars. David Bowie is widely recognized as one of the most daring and innovative performers of the 20th century, boasting both critical and commercial success since his early days in the 1960s and influencing popular culture ever since. After a 10-year hiatus, Bowie has released a new single (Where Are We Now?), a new album The Next Day, and the first international retrospective of Bowie's career is set to open at London's Victoria and Albert Museum. With unique access to David Bowie's personal archive of costumes, set designs, lyrics and memorabilia, this program explores five seminal years across Bowie's extensive career, with each year illustrating not only the source of his inspiration, but also where those ideas led him. The film starts with 1971 and the creation of Ziggy Stardust; moves on to 1975, the year of the Young Americans and the Thin White Duke; 1977 and the release of the hugely influential albums Low and Heroes; 1980, the year of Ashes to Ashes, one of the most iconic songs of the decade; and 1983, the year Bowie went commercial with the release of Let's Dance. This film offers a unique opportunity to explore Bowie's work and creative vision and shows Bowie not just as the rock star chameleon, but also as an artist drawing on rich and diverse cultural influences.
