WE tv IS GETTING IN THE BOX - THE "SEX BOX"
Network Greenlights First-Ever Extreme Relationship Therapy Series For 2015 Premiere
NEW YORK, NY - August 21, 2015 - WE tv today announced the series greenlight of Sex Box for an early 2015 exclusive U.S. premiere. Produced by Relativity Television, and adapted from the UK series of the same name, Sex Box is an extreme therapy reality concept that lets couples discuss their relationship issues with a panel of experts and then retire to a camera-free, soundproof box on the show's set to have sex. They emerge to immediately discuss their experiences in the box and most intimate personal issues with the experts, as the cameras roll before a studio audience. The first season will feature nine, one-hour episodes.
"Sex Box is one of the most unique and compelling show concepts we've ever seen, and we can't wait to bring it to WE tv," said Marc Juris, WE tv's president. "Our featured couples will get a once-in-a-lifetime experience, while our viewers will get the kind of bold, break-through-the-clutter programming they increasingly associate with WE tv."
Scientists and researchers cite that people are more trusting and open in the moments immediately after sex due to the body's natural release of oxytocin, also known as the "cuddle hormone." As a result, post coital couples therapy is more powerful and effective.
WE tv's panel of experts includes: Dr. Fran Walfish, a leading Beverly Hills relationship psychotherapist who treats celebrity couples and LA's poshest residents through her private practice; Dr. Fran is a published author of The Self-Aware Parent, has appeared on The Doctors (CBS), NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, ABC News, CNN and Fox News Channel. She is also a regular on-camera contributor for the CBS and Fox news affiliates in Los Angeles.
Dr. Chris Donaghue, PhD, a licensed clinical therapist, nationally certified sex therapist (one of only 20 in Calif. and 600 in the world), and doctor of clinical sexology and human sexuality. Dr. Chris has appeared on Logo TV's Bad Sex, and has been featured in Newsweek, and seen on CNN, OWN, National Geographic and Dr. Drew's Lifechangers. Rounding out the panel is Florida-based Pastor Dr. Yvonne Capehart, PhD, the founder of "Healed for Real" healing and deliverance conference and Sister Keeper International Ministries Crusade, a network for women in ministry.
In addition to the expert panelists, Sex Box features comedian and podcaster Danielle Stewart (#TheDaniStew Experience), who has been featured on the Ralphie May's Filthy Animals Tour, Playboy Channel's Foursome: Walk of Shame and Hulu's Comedy Brew. Danielle adds a lighthearted perspective to the series through backstage commentary and gives a voice to everyday couples through her man-on-the-street style interviews, interspersed between show segments. Danielle also interviews each couple before they enter the sex box.
Once each couple enters the sex box, our experts discuss their initial observations, ranging from what they think is happening inside the box to whether or not the relationship will survive. Immediately upon exiting the sex box, each couple sits down for a heart-to-heart with the expert panelists to discuss what just happened, how they feel, and how they're planning to overcome their issues.
Sex Box is executive produced by Relativity Television's Tom Forman and Brad Bishop. The executive producers for WE tv are Marc Juris and Lauren Gellert, senior vice president of original production and development.
