CHEERLEADER DEATH SQUAD (The CW, New!) - Marc Cherry, Neal Baer and Daniel Truly are set to team for a new drama at the netlet about "a disgraced CIA agent-turned-teacher at an elite Washington D.C. prep school. When he realizes that his students have high-level access through personal connections, he trains a select few to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage and help him earn his way back into the agency." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with Cherry/Wind Productions' Sabrina Wind also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
CODES OF CONDUCT (A.K.A. UNTITLED CARNAHAN & MCQUEEN PROJECT) (HBO; W: Matthew Michael Carnahan & Steve McQueen; D: Steve McQueen) - Newcomer Devon Terrell has booked the lead role on the long-in-the-works drama pilot, billed as "a provocative exploration of a young black man's experience entering New York high society." Said role, Beverly Snow, comes after a year-long casting search. Russell Simmons and See-Saw Films' Iain Canning and Emile Sherman also serve as executive producers on the project. (Deadline.com)
ILLUSIONIST, THE (The CW, New!) - Neil Burger's 2006 film - about "a renowned illusionist who returns home from a decade in prison to find his wife married to the ruthless crime boss who framed him" - is being eyed for the small screen at the netlet. Yari Film Group, Electus and CBS Television Studios are behind the project, which will now take place in turn-of-the-century New York. Mark Hudis ("True Blood") will pen the script and executive produce alongside Bob Yari, Ben Silverman and David Clark. (Deadline.com)
IN GOOD COMPANY (CBS, New!) - Paul Weitz's 2004 movie - about "a middle-aged ad exec who contends with his new boss who's half his age, and who also begins dating his daughter" - is being developed as multi-camera comedy at the Eye. Weitz will co-write the script, which has a penalty attached, with Josh Bycel and Jon Fener ("Happy Endings") for Unversal Television. Chris Weitz and Andrew Miano are also executive producing via their Depth of Field banner with Kerry Kohansky co-producing. (Deadline.com)
KEN JEONG MADE ME DO IT (MTV; W: Andy St. Clair & Paul O'Toole; D: Peter Segal) - Marshall Allman, Bonnie Dennison and Justin Hires have all been cast in the comedy pilot, about "22-year-old everyman Andy (Allman), who, after catching his girlfriend cheating, accidentally rear-ends Jeong's fancy car. Taking pity on Andy, Jeong, playing himself, takes it upon himself to teach him how to man up." Dennison will play Molly, "Andy's best friend and who just likes being one of the guys but there is definitely some unexplored chemistry between them"; with Hires as Paul, "Andy and Molly's other best friend who is a ball of manic energy with no filter, a flaky goofball but completely dedicated to his job as preschool teacher." LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON (NBC, New!) - Michael Pennie ("Raising Hope") has sold a new comedy to the Peacock about "a recently divorced man in his early thirties who is just starting to enjoy the benefits of being young, successful and single when he learns he has a fifteen-year-old son from a one-night-stand he had in college." Universal Television is behind the half-hour with Will Packer Productions' Will Packer executive producing and Korin Huggins co-executive producing. (Deadline.com)
MEN IN SHORTS (ABC, New!) - Claudia Lonow and Jordon Nardino have sold a new single-camera comedy to the Alphabet "inspired by the life of professional soccer player Robbie Rogers, who became the first openly gay man to compete in a top North American professional sports league." Storyline Entertainment's Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will also executive produce the half-hour, which center "on a young pro soccer player who takes one small step out of the closet and one giant leap into the spotlight," for Universal Television. Rogers himself, whose book "Coming Out to Play" is due out next month, will receive a producing credit with Mark Nicholson serving as a consulting producer. (Deadline.com)
TOWN, THE (The CW, New!) - Oliver Goldstick ("Pretty Little Liars") is looking to import Mike Bartlett's U.K. series - about "a young man, who, when he starts investigating his parents' suicide and he suspects murder, the entire town is culpable" - at the netlet. Said effort is set up at Warner Bros. Television with Big Talk Productions' Matthew Justice, Kenton Allen and Simon Curtis also executive producing alongside Bartlett and Goldstick via the latter's Russian Hill Productions banner. UNTITLED MIKE ARNOLD PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Mike Arnold ("Archer") has set up a new multi-camera comedy at the Eye about Steve Kurtz "who, back from (technically, escorted out of) Japan, moves in with his recently divorced sister and takes over after-school parenting duties for her twins, bringing his uninhibited and proudly eccentric lifestyle to bear in teaching them life lessons everyone should know, and many that you shouldn't." Ed Helms and Mike Falbo are also executive producing via their Pacific Electric Company banner for Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
