First series from Amazon Studios' open-door pilot submissions process
Created by David Anaxagoras, executive produced by Academy Award winner Luke Matheny and stars Sloane Morgan Siegel, Ashley Boettcher, Drew Justice, and Robyn Lively
SEATTLE -- Oct. 28, 2014 -- (NASDAQ: AMZN) - Amazon today announced it will premiere its first original live-action kids series aimed at children aged 6 through 11, Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street on Friday, November 21 on Prime Instant Video in the US. The first greenlit project from its open-door pilot submissions process, the series is created by pre-school teacher and first-time writer David Anaxagoras and executive produced by Oscar winner Luke Matheny (God of Love). Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street stars Sloane Morgan Siegel (Partners), Ashley Boettcher (Aliens in the Attic), Drew Justice (The Little Rascals Save the Day), and Robyn Lively (Saving Grace, Twin Peaks) and is a coming-of-age tale of friendship that centers around Gortimer (Siegel) and the bond with his two best friends Ranger (Justice) and Mel (Boettcher), as they chronicle their pursuits on Normal Street - an ordinary suburban neighborhood that has a hint of something unexpected just beneath the surface.
Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street will follow Gortimer, a kid fiercely loyal to his best friends and family, as he embarks with Ranger and Mel on magical exploits triggered by their thirst for adventure. The upcoming season will bring the trio together to help the unluckiest kid on Normal Street, solve a mystery before a spooky spirit turns them into ghost stories, undertake a scavenger hunt through town to find the fabled lost treasure of Normal Street, and outsmart fate after some alarming advice from a fortune teller.
Amazon Prime members can now watch the first episode of Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street, and additional episodes beginning November 21, on their TVs using the Amazon Instant Video app on Fire TV, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, and smart TVs. They can also use the Amazon Instant Video app to watch on mobile devices, including Fire tablets, Fire phone, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, as well as hundreds of other connected devices - or customers can visit Amazon.com/PIV to watch online. Customers who are not already Prime members can sign up for a free trial at www.amazon.com/prime. Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street will also be available as part of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, the all-you-can-eat subscription service designed from the ground up for kids - FreeTime Unlimited is available exclusively on Amazon devices including Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets, and a year-long subscription is included with every Fire HD Kids Edition.
"We're thrilled to bring to our customers something exceptional and truly distinctive in today's kids landscape," said Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids' Programming at Amazon Studios. "Luke and David have fully realized a nostalgic and cinematic adventure series that organically blurs the line between imagination and reality, which will resonate remarkably with kids and families."
"I'm so happy that Amazon has allowed me to tell this very special story of a world through the eyes of a 13-year-old where things are still a little magical," said David Anaxagoras. "This is a dream I've had for a long time and the entire experience has felt natural and exciting - from my initial submission and the pilot being greenlit to working alongside talented minds pouring themselves into the project through the series' production."
Guest stars on the series include Fionnula Flanagan (Waking Ned Devine) as Miss Hudspith, Ben Koldyke (Big Love) as Greg Gibbon, Paula Marshall (Gary Unmarried) as Lora Fuller, Kim Rhodes (Supernatural) as Vicki Bowen, and Luke Matheny as Fred. Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street features music from composer Sasha Gordon and musician/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird's cover of "Stand by Me." The series is co-executive produced by David Anaxagoras and produced by Richard G. King (The League).
