|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
GO JERROD GO (NBC/Universal; W: Jerrod Carmichael & Nick Stoller; D: Scott Ellis) - Lil Rel ("Friends of the People") is the latest addition to the comedy pilot, about a young couple, Jerrod (Jerrod Carmichael) and Maxine (Amber West), who decide to move in together, but when it comes time to tell Jerrod's parents (David Alan Grier, Loretta Devine), he finds every reason in the world to hold off on breaking the news to them. He'll play "Jerrod's loveable but ne're-do-well brother Bobby, whose crazy money-making schemes never pan out." (Deadline.com)
MONTY CLIFT (HBO, New!) - Matt Bomer ("The Normal Heart") is back in business with the pay channel for a biopic of iconic Hollywood actor Montgomery Clift. Larry Moss is already attached to direct from a script by Christopher Lovick, Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias with Moss, Pier 3 Pictures' Michael Din and Anonymous Content's Tony Lipp and Alix Madigan among the executive producers. Said effort will presumably cover everything "from Clift being the first star to refuse to sign a studio contract to a devastating car accident that left him with a broken nose and partially paralyzed face to his struggle with his sexual orientation." (Deadline.com)
OUTSIDERS (WGN; W: Peter Mattei; D: TBA) - Joe Anderson and David Morse have both landed roles on the upcoming drama, about a struggle for power and control set in the rugged and mysterious hills of Appalachia. The former will play Asa, "a man who bridges the mountain and the 'outside' world. While he realizes that saving his people is of huge, symbolic importance, a darker side will emerge as he is forced into a position of vying for power." The latter then is set as Big Foster, "a weathered man with a brutal and grandiose primitive power who is hot-blooded and reactive, which makes him all the more dangerous." Kyle Gallner and Thomas M. Wright also star. (THR.com)
SHANNARA (MTV; W: Al Gough & Miles Millar; D: Jonathan Liebesman) - Ivana Baquero (Pan's Labyrinth) has snagged a role in the upcoming drama, based on Terry Brooks's best-selling fantasy novels about the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. She'll play Eretria, "a young woman from the wrong side of the tracks who's been forced to use her beauty and wits to survive." Aaron Jakubenko, Austin Butler, Manu Bennett and Poppy Drayton also star. (Deadline.com)
STUDIO, THE (Showtime, New!) - Writer Peter Tolan, producer George Clooney and director Bennett Miller are set to team for a new drama at the pay channel which "tells the story of a movie studio in the early '90s, when the studios were being bought up by conglomerates and corporate culture crashed head-on into Hollywood's excesses. The two men running our studio are best friends who struggle to maintain their humanity while they stockpile power, fight off irrelevance, and mercilessly f**k over anyone who gets in their way - including each other." Sony Pictures Television, home to Tolan and Michael Wimer's Fedora Entertainment and Clooney and Grant Heslov's Smokehouse Pictures, is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Max Charles has been cast as Ephraim Goodweather's (Corey Stroll) son Zach on "The Strain" where he'll succeed Ben Hyland (Deadline.com); Jane Seymour will drop by "Jane the Virgin" as "the leader of a romance writer's group that title character Jane (Gina Rodriguez) joins" (USAToday.com); Hayes MacArthur has been upped to series regular on TBS's upcoming comedy "Angie Tribeca" after guest starring in the pilot as Jay Geils, "the new police partner assigned to Angie Tribeca (Rashida Jones)" (Deadline.com);
Jonathan Tucker is bound for the final five episodes of "Justified" as Boon, "a hired gun of Katherine Hale's (Mary Steenburgen) ex, Avery Markham (Sam Elliott)" (THR.com); Liam McIntyre has been cast as Mark Mardon, a.k.a. the new Weather Wizard, on "The Flash" (ComicBook.com); Jon Lovitz will visit "Hawaii Five-0" as a fence for high-end stolen goods (EW.com); Elizabeth Banks's Sal and Nathan Lane's Pepper will both return to "Modern Family" next month (EW.com); and Paul Adelstein is bound for "Law & Order: SVU" as "the uncle of an SVU rape victim" (TVLine.com).
