CARRIE UNDERWOOD TO PERFORM SPECIAL "WAITING ALL DAY FOR A SUPER BOWL FIGHT" FEB. 1 ON NBC

Super Bowl Open Features New Lyrics and Design Elements

STAMFORD, Conn. - Jan. 26, 2015 - Six-time Grammy Award-winner and multi-platinum recording artist Carrie Underwood returns to star in the special "Waiting All Day for a Super Bowl Fight" opening theme for NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015. Each week of the last two NFL seasons, Underwood's performance of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" has kicked off Sunday Night Football, primetime television's No. 1 program.

The opening theme for NBC's coverage of Super Bowl XLIX will contain new elements, including lyrics featuring the AFC champion New England Patriots and NFC champion Seattle Seahawks, and a special set design.

"I'm so honored to again be a part of the Super Bowl, this time joining NBC Sports in helping kick everything off! I can't wait to watch the game!" said Underwood.

NBC will broadcast Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, Feb. 1 from Glendale, Ariz. Coverage kicks off at Noon ET.

Carrie Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 American Idol win to become a true multi-format, multi-media superstar, spanning achievements in music, television, and film, where the six-time GRAMMY(R) Award winner has amassed more than 95 major honors, sold more than 64 million records worldwide, and recorded 18 #1 singles, nine of which she co-wrote. The first female artist to be twice named the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year, Underwood was recognized as Pollstar's top female country touring artist for her headlining tours in 2008, 2010, and 2012. Her four albums, Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, Play On, and Blown Away - each certified multi-Platinum or Platinum, and each an American Music Awards winner as Country Album of the Year - tallied 38 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart with songs that have now been streamed more than 800 million times worldwide. In 2013, she starred as Maria von Trapp in NBC's three-hour holiday blockbuster, the Emmy(R)-winning The Sound of Music Live!, whose airings attracted 44 million viewers. A proud member of the Grand Ole Opry since 2008, Underwood is now in her second season as the musical voice of primetime television's #1 program, Sunday Night Football, and recently returned for the seventh consecutive year as co-host of the CMA Awards. She closed 2014 with the release of her first hits collection, Greatest Hits: Decade #1, whose record-breaking single, "Something in the Water," earned Underwood a nomination for Best Country Solo Performance at the upcoming 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
