DISCOVERY CHANNEL DELIVERS ALL NEW DIGITAL CONTENT AND SOCIAL MEDIA ACTION DURING "SHARK WEEK 2015"
SHARK WEEK premieres July 5 and Discovery Channel's digital and social media platforms are taking deeper dives than ever before. Viewers can go online for digital and social media exclusive videos, the latest science news, expertly researched shark content, interactive games and other content leading up to and during SHARK WEEK. Sharkopedia - Discovery's ultimate digital guide to all things shark - makes its online debut this year, as does the SHARK WEEK Finbassador series, featuring shark experts, scientists, artists and photographers, among others. There is also a Daily Shark Feed with breaking news about sharks and their habitats, among other elements and features.
"We've created the ultimate destination online and through our social platforms with a wide array of content," said Paul Pastor, Executive Vice President of Network Strategy, Revenue and Operations. "SHARK WEEK online is more robust and social than previous years, with information to engage fans while experts weigh in and provide key information and insight."
SHARK WEEK online and social content will include:
· Sharkopedia - Discovery's digital guide to everything you ever wanted to know about sharks. Sharkopedia features expertly researched and written content, infographics and illustrations, videos, countdowns, quizzes, and interactive elements - and our Save Sharks section, created in partnership with Oceana, empowers fans to take interest and action in shark advocacy and anti-finning efforts. Another one of a kind aspect of Sharkopedia is its on-air presence. Each night of SHARK WEEK at 8 PM ET/PT the programs will be powered by Sharkopedia with full screen and lower-third facts linking back to the digital SHARK WEEK experience.
· For the first time ever, Discovery presents our SHARK WEEK Shark Finbassadors initiative. For 15 days leading up to and through SHARK WEEK, Discovery hands over our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts to scientists, divers , filmmakers, photographers, advocates, and artists, all of whom have one thing in common: their undying love for sharks and heartfelt passion to save and protect them. From Racing Extinction director Louie Psihoyos to SHARK WEEK regulars like Jeff Kurr and Andy Casagrande, our Shark Finbassadors will be appearing in a daily original video series throughout SHARK WEEK; chatting live with fans on Facebook, Meerkat, Twitter, and even inside a shark tank; and sharing their greatest shark imagery on the official SHARK WEEK Instagram account.
· The Daily Shark Feed is already popular with shark fans, featuring breaking news about sharks, scientific findings, sharks in pop culture features, fun countdowns, SHARK WEEK -themed party ideas, sneak peeks & rare behind-the-scenes glimpses of SHARK WEEK. Guest appearances on the Daily Shark Feed will include shark experts, filmmakers and shark advocates which will continue the discussions and conversations around sharks across digital and social platforms all summer long.
Additional SHARK WEEK social media elements will include Facebook native video, a 10-day countdown, video exclusives and Shark Finbassador Q&A's; SnapChat stories featuring Chompie Jr. and his adventures; live streaming Meerkat events, including a live shark feeding at the National Aquarium; Pinterest shark-inspired party and crafts ideas; and GIF's sure to quickly become SHARK WEEK fan favorites.
